I can tell you right now, nothing is under construction. There is no land clearing what-so-ever. The Aquatic stadium hasn't been touched, there is nothing in the woods on MF Island, and we already know what the last construction site was for.

Re: Cedar Point Project 2009

Lets get this started up again...

There has been so much chatter about refurbishment on Mean Streak but I have heard a ton of shit from an Aquatrax to a GCI Woodie. It's crazy. I have also heard, and what I think is the best fit, is a revolutionary flume type ride. One that is completely new and never thought of before.

I'm not sure though, BTW, I am not saying this is for 2009. It could be, but more likely its for 2010.

Re: Cedar Point Project 2009

It seems that the project was put on hold. I've been keeping tabs through the news, and internet, and Cedar Fair seems to be fairly out o' cash at the moment. They made their move buying up all the paramount parks, and Geauga Lake in the middle of '08, and then made a press release stating that no projects were currently set for CP in '09 due to the buying of other parks, and other renovations. They also say that there is a high possibility of the 2010 season opening with a new ride.

Re: Cedar Point Project 2009

I think that if there were to be something new that we would have seen something happening by now. Remember, Maverick was released before the park even closed in the 2006 season and work on it had started even before then. So I don't think that '09 will bring anything new, but 2010 there will most likely be something new.

I also read that Cedar Point is on a 10 year, 5 coaster contract with Intamin.

Re: Cedar Point Project 2009

Here's a few points to read:

1. There has been nothing said that Mean Streak is getting a major overhaul.
2. Their money loss is more because of the economy than the Paramount parks deal. From what I heard, attendance has been up, especially in the Paramount parks.
3. The announcement date doesn't matter. MF was announced in June 1999 and TTD was announced in January 03. It just depends.
4. Biggest one of all; THE CONTRACT WITH INTAMIN IS A MYTH! There is no proof. Intamin never signed a contract with Cedar Point with building it's rides. That's just an enthusiast's idea drummed up due to the amount of Intamins that were built.
5. A mega-lite will not fit at CP. They already have enough non looping coasters as it is, but another Intamin sit down, especially one so similar to a mini MF, is blasphemy. It would need a custom layout as well.

Re: Cedar Point Project 2009

RD, they have said that the wood was for refurbishment. It would just fit that Mean Streak would get it because its definitely the ride at the park that would tear apart its wood.

Fun Fact: If you took every piece of Mean Streak and laid it end to end it would go from D.C. to Sacramento a little of three times.

Idk, I can see a revolutionary water flume type ride being a good fit for CP.

Re: Cedar Point Project 2009

I hate to ruin anyone's excitement, but from what I know and have personally seen, CP will be getting a log flume from Intamin, most likely in 2010. I don't want to spoil too much, but it will be heavily themed.

Now, I know you guys are probably wondering how I know this, so it would be best that I explain. As I was walking around the park last year, I was walking near Max-Air in front of the park management office. No one was in the immediate vicinity, as it was a slow day in the park. I walked in front of one of the windows of the park management office, and the blinds were open. Inside the window was a man giving a presentation on a new attraction, which from the concept art displayed on the PowerPoint slide, was a unique log flume. Of course, before I could grab a picture, one of the men saw me and closed the blinds.

I know, many of you will doubt this, but I'm just saying what I saw. The main reason why I haven't mentioned it before was due to a lack of proof, but also because it would take out a lot of the surprise of the attraction's official announcement. But now that it appears that a log flume is coming, I guess this shouldn't be much of a surprise, huh?

^ It would be a good addition if it is themed really well......Or maybe it can set a record for steepest drop on a flume ride?..

We can only hope. I would prefer a floorless dive machine though. It would fit a lot better.

That would be a smaller TTD; aka another hydraulic launch.

They do that every year to all the wooden roller coasters. Mean Streak gets retracked so much, that it isn't even big news. They replaced the drop and pullout after the MCBR in 2006.

One flaw with your story; CP does not know how to theme. Look at what Disaster Transport and TTD turned into. Look at Maverick and all the theming it was supposed to get in the renderings.

I, for one, don't buy your story becuase it sounds completely bogus. If it is true, then quote me here and I'll admit my wrongness, but I highly doubt it. I don't see why CP needs another water ride just because they took out WWL. Two are just fine. Now if they took out Snake River Falls, which is rumored, then they would need another one. As of now, they don't need another water ride. I didn't notice huge queues for either one they have this past summer, so they don't have the ridership to build another.

Magnums 20th Birthday, eh? Wonder what the plan is.

Also, Demon Drop is staying for 2009 so rumors for its demolition have been quelled. I'm still wondering about why there has said to have been a GCI employee walking around Mean Streak with Dick Kinzel. (sp?)

Maybe there could be a woodie that intertwines with Mean Streak? There is alot of space in the middle of MS. Haha that would be nasty.

Chubs; they'll probably just have a special ride night or maybe some TLC, such as new trains maybe. Those really need replacing.

Re: Cedar Point Project 2009

GCI also apparently did a great job of retracking TR at Carowinds this year. CF would be stupid not to hire them to retrack Mean Streak(All of this is based on what I think I know about roller coasters, and I could just be making up garbage. I'm pretty sure I'm right though).

^They are retracking Mean Streak. It just isn't a big deal because Mean Streak gets treatment like this every year. The only difference is that it's being done by GCI.

Take my story for what you will, but I know what I saw. Granted, the concept art always looks better than the final ride (ala Maverick) and CP isn't too big into theming, but as far as theming goes, the log flume style ride I saw was fairly well themed considering it's CP. Also, take into consideration that, for the most part, its much easier to theme a slow log flume than it is to theme a hundred foot tall coaster going 70 mph.

With that being said, if you really don't believe me, then just forget I ever said anything. As far as I know, any plans for such a ride may have fell through awhile ago, especially considering the current state of the economy. The only reason I came forth was to share what I saw. I've been here for over 2 years now, and I definitely didn't post it just to get attention.

Like I stated though, take my story for what you will, because honestly, I decided to tell it anyways fully knowing that there would be doubt in it.
