Wow I build slow... The next element isn't finished yet, but I've built enough that it can be an update. What you'll see in the pictures is the lie-to-fly transition into the pretzel loop, and then the beginning of the pretzel loop itself.

(It looks a little flat at the top of this picture, I'll fix it)

The remainder of the pretzel loop is still to come, but I think I'm going to redo the supports so it will go closer to the floor and have a larger pullout than the current supports suggest.

Yes it's a bit flat, but that is really the only point of criticism. Though it looks like you're losing height quite fast.

  3. Re: Flying Coaster

Looks good. I agree with Maarten unless it makes it through everything with a good amount of speed.

    Re: Flying Coaster

    Yay! An update! Finally!

It seems as if you're losing height dramatically on this, how fast does the train go through it? But as for the pretzel loop, I'd say raise the top of it a bit. The newer picture, it looks like the pullout will be too small for the loop, maybe take away the granite rods. But then you would have to make the loop wider. Oh well, I guess it's up to you.

Edit: Wow, I have way too many posts on this .

    Re: Flying Coaster

It goes through the element with a fair amount of speed, and this is so that I can get the other side up high enough to resemble a pretzel loop.

    Re: Flying Coaster

The height is fine to me if you'll be able to make the second half about as high as the first half. You said to fix the shaping, and that's the only thing that you need to do since the rest looks very good

For me, everything looks good, except the flat piece then. I'm sure you'll fize that. I am curious about the rest of the layout. A flying coaster offers many opportunities.

Great job so far! You should add a corkscrew or twist next.

    Re: Flying Coaster

I think you should turn this into a B&M invert, with a loop, dive loop, a mix of an inclined loop & helix, a 0-g-roll, a corkscrew, and a couple of curves into the station.

Looks nice Brennan! I love the fly-to-lie! Very original layout so far! And I love how all of these new people are trying to tell you what to do...

This looks really cool! I love the concept of the fly to lie into the pretzel loop. Flying coasters are my favorite but unfortunately I have not seen too many of them made out of knex. Great to see an amazing one being built!

    Yeah no. Hell no.

A traditional pretzel loop is taller on the first half loop than on the second. It's shaped nicely as is, minus the straight spot which you've addressed. Also, I don't think you're losing speed that fast. I will say that I think a pretzel loop may cause some layout issues, because you're running out of room that way. But you know what you're doing, so if you have a solid plan, continue on.

Yeah, I'll be able to make it almost the same height, just a silver rod lower. Thanks!

I've fixed the flat part. I have a few different ideas for the rest of the layout.

Thanks! I'm planning to have a wingover (corkscrew) or inline twist at some point in the ride, probably a bit further on.

Thanks! I am planning on having it dip down a bit and do a turn to the right around the pretzel loop once it comes back up. Then it'll meander back towards the first drop, doing different elements and inversions along the way.

The rest of the pretzel loop is coming along smoothly, so I should have an update before too long.

Isn't this running with custom cars? That would explain why some people think your losing speed

    Re: Flying Coaster

I finished the pretzel loop, and with a recently lubed train, I could make the other side almost as tall as the first. I added some laterals on the pullout before the pretzel loop too, because there was some shaking. Here are some pictures and a test video to check out:

By the way, how does "Aviator" sound for a name? It's a flying coaster, so I thought it might fit.

man the entrance to the pretzel loop makes it real hard to judge the shaping. Looks great though!

This is going to be another quality coaster from you, as usually . The speed is perfect and the name sounds good too, any ideas for the next element?

    Re: Flying Coaster

Looking good so far. It might be just a tad fast through the first element and first half of the pretzel loop but I don't think it matters. Your shaping is flawless, as usual, and everything is well supported.

Shaping is excellent. Up to now you have an awesome lay-out there, I hope you have some more surprises in mind.
