Description A new league of K'NEX roller coasters has emerged, with the coming of Balrog. This ride features 6 inversions, ENSCHEDE, THE NETHERLANDS - During the summer season of 2009 the K'NEX builders group Dutch Details was launched. Many major K'NEX roller coasters and other amusement park rides have been built over the years, of which a few by founding member Jogumpie: The Gumpinator, Looping Star and Great Wheel of Holland. Before Dutch Details existed, Jogumpie was known for his dinstinct building style. Speed o' Fear and Python are his major achievements from that era. A new league of K'NEX roller coasters has now emerged with the coming of Balrog. Construction started on November 4th, 2011. Its opening date was July 6th, 2012.Known by roller coaster fans as a "megalooper", Balrog takes riders on a fiery journey through 6 inversions. This journey begins with an 8-foot lift. As the cars crest the hill, riders have a few seconds before plummeting back to the ground at high speed. At the bottom of the first hill, the coaster will ascend into its largest inversion, a classic vertical loop. Coming out of the vertical loop, the track will twist through a cobra roll, which takes the riders upside down twice. The next inversion is a zero-g roll, which consists of a barrel roll on top of a parabolic hill, creating a weightless sensation for the riders. From this inversion, the cars will race through a high-speed turn that leads into the mid-course brake section. It is here where riders have a brief moment to gasp for air, before being thrown into a corkscrew. A high-speed overbanked turn leads the coaster into a second corkscrew, which is the last inversion of Balrog. The train rolls out of the corkscrew and makes a last jump before entering the final brakes, from which the riders are led back to the station. The name Balrog is derived from the demonic race created by writer J.R.R. Tolkien. If you have read The Lord of the Rings or seen the first or second part of the film trilogy, you probably remember the Balrog of Moria, which was slain by Gandalf the Grey. The entrance and station area of Balrog will be themed with elements from The Lord of the Rings and will feature a moving animatronic of one of these demons. Be sure to check this website for updates on the construction of the roller coaster and the animatronic.Balrog is manufactured by Jogumpie, founding member of Dutch Details. The Balrog logo was designed by Spitfire. The Balrog video was created by Maxlaam and Jogumpie.
