Easily the tallest of any of my rides, this 20 feet Kingda Ka replica was truly a huge project. Not only did it require nearly each and every last one of my pieces, it took 3 hours to erect, even with a detailed construction plan with pre-made pieces. This project took about 2-3 months of working a few days a week and won TM3. Also, my good friends Supportking86 and Chrenshaw21 helped a lot with this project, from making the support chunks to completing the final product.Full gallery hereIt's also worthy to note that there was a nice writeup in the newspaper about this accomplishment, entitled: Teenager reaches new heights, conveniently edited by me =)For eight years he collected tens of thousands of K'NEX pieces, tirelessly building one masterpiece after another. Then CC10 found a Web site for roller coaster builders and decided to take his hobby to new heights. For three weeks the 14-year-old dreamed, plotted, sketched and analyzed. With graph paper before him and piles of plastic pieces surrounding him, he spend all of his spare time in his basement constructing a masterpiece. With determination and persistence, he built a 20-foot tall, 30-foot long of the tallest coaster in the world, Kingda Ka, located at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson N.J."I just drew the coaster and then broke it down into the cubes and sections," he said.Once he and his friend, 15 year old, Supportking86, put 30 large sections together, they called their friend Chrenshaw21, 14, to help piece it together on the driveway. While other people have built s of this coaster, these boys were determined to make theirs the tallest."It sounded really, really neat when he told me," said Chrenshaw21. "I had to get out of babysitting to do it.He said it was worth it to see it come together, though."I didn't think we were going to be able to do it," CS21 said. "But after we found the scaffolding, we knew it was going to work."The scaffolding was CC10's moms idea. Her mother instincts kicked in as she looked for the safest option to erect the 20-foot crowning piece. The teens climbed the scaffolding with the tallest piece of the project, and then enlisted CC10's father, an engineer, to stand on the roof to anchor the structure. The final test came when CC10 attached the car. He strung thick rubber bands together and walked 30 feet behind the launching point and crossed his fingers for luck."Once I saw it run for the first time, me and CC10 just jumped up and down," said SK86.Seeing the completion of their hard work was amazing, he said. "Thats the greatest excitement."Friends and family gathered Saturday to watch the "launch" and throughout the evening the unique lawn ornament attracted quite a crowd."we're very proud of him," said CC10's mom. "it was a big effort and time commitment on his part. We never doubted he would do it."CC10's family plans to celebrate the completion of the with a roller coaster vacation. The coaster loves will visit four parks, including Six Flags in Maryland and New Jersey, as well as Dorney Park and Hershey Park. The highlight, though, will be getting to actually ride Kingda Ka.CC10 started tearing down his coaster Sunday night. With this project behind him, the wheels in his head are already turning, as he dreams up his next creation.Someday, he plans to study engineering, but in the meantime he will attend the high school he will be attending and build smaller coasters in his spare time. It is never something he will tire of linke he has with other hobbies, he said. This is one passion he enjoys sharing with others. And, with friendly competition between his online buddies at www.sscoasters.net, he can cheer on coaster lovers everywhere as they strive to build their dream creations.Said SK86, "It's this huge thing in common that we all have."
