In the summer of 2006, I went to Matthijs (QAFS) again to build a new roller coaster. We came up with new inventions to launch and slow down a train. To show these inventions we built a simple recreation of Top Thrill Dragster. Most people use rubber bands to launch their knex trains. Sometimes the train got stuck between the rubber bands and sometimes the train didn't survive this. To prevent this, we wanted the rubber bands to stay beneath the track. We used a rope to pull the train and this worked for Top Thrill Dragster.Different kinds of brakes have been developed for knexcoasters, but they usually slowed down the train in a very bumpy way. We used an extra chain on Top Thrill Dragster, making the train slow down. Unfortunately the braking force was very small.
