i have not seen much for suspended coasters online. ive been looking for them specifically.  i have some ideas for one. like the iron dragon at cedar point but perhaps a little bit faster and a single lift hill.  i just started construction on a station and mashed up some train car options.  im sure ill have to use tube supports for this thing as the cars are underneath the track.  just wanted to pick your brains for some help on this matter.

Yes, suspended coasters have been done on here a few times. They're just uncommon because they lose speed and momentum quickly.

And of course, they require custom cars. That's something not everyone is wanting to do.

I've done it a few times and I can tell you that they're some of the funnest models I've built! Yes, it requires modifying your cars, but you can put them back after you're done. And the speed loss is certainly a drawback, but you can still create a decently long layout if you support the track well. I also used rubber bands as shock absorbers (just like on real Arrow Suspended coasters) to keep the cars from swinging out of control, and added weights underneath each car, both of which improved the speed a fair amount.

I first tried it in 2009, which worked fairly well...

I later revisited my car design in 2010 with a complete model (left video). Jumpge did an even better suspended coaster in 2011 (right video), and I think there might have been a few more too.

Like I said, it was super fun and I'd love to see someone try it again! There's more pictures if you poke around in the construction threads, and I can try to find some too if you're needing help with anything.

if anyome could help with some good pictures of the modified cars that would be great. so far i have my ss train inverted with a car built from pieces under it.  seems decent.  makes the whole assembly a bit larger but that might help with the added mass. ill mess with the rubber bands idea some. the shock absorbents should control the sway alot

I like those cars! They are pretty simplistic but all you really need for the cars is to have them swinging.
