As time goes by and I get older, I think of memories and stories from the past. Many of you may do the same. This thread is a place to share and discuss those memories.

This Memorial Day weekend brings back a lot of memories. One that is fondly sticking to me is about RCT2. Back in 2002, my oldest sister was graduating high school (and myself middle school). The day of her graduation, the first image of RCT2 were released. The first images were of the Six Flags Magic Mountain scenario.

At the time, I was running a website called RCT Market. We so over analyzed those photos trying to figure out was new to the game. Some things I remember where the wide paths & the 4D coaster. The excitement was just incredible.

Ah. Good old Roller Coaster Tycoon. Had it on our first house computer and then, for some reason, got rid of it when we got the third game. Eventually, I tracked down the first two games and now have the set which is nice. I found it challenging at the time but now the challenges aren't too difficult. It's always fun trying to create the original parks that my brother and I made in the early 2000s. It's such a nostalgia hit every time.

This is such a great thread idea!

One time that sticks out to me in particular was around this time of the year when I was in eighth grade in 2010, probably around the time when my propensity to build was at its highest. At this point I was starting to build Ion, and I had so many ideas racing through my head that I would frequently devote a day to building something else small before returning to Ion. In that first month of construction, I built 2 micro coasters, a ball machine, 3 marble runs made of paper, and a small SS coaster, none of which I posted on here because I wanted to make it seem like I was fully dedicated to building Ion all the time haha. I probably could have finished it much more quickly if I had devoted all my building time to Ion alone, but I also credit these creative tangents with giving me ideas and inspiration so nothing ever got monotonous. How I wish for that kind of free time now!

Man I also remember when me and my brother begged the living hell out of my mother to buy us RCT2, which was on a shelf by the check out line at a book store (back when those existed about 10 years ago). We got home and played it together on his old dell computer with one of those ol' clunky CRT monitors. We played it so much that we would stay on it until 7pm when our parents forced us to go to bed, and even then we would talk about it the next day during breakfast and even at school. So many good memories of trying to recreate kingda-ka with the LIM coaster, and failing because it would be too intense. Then we moved on to Runescape and Skateboarding and Guitar Hero 3.

I can remember when me and my brother got into Minecraft when it was in the Alpha stages. We played it until like beta 1.7.3 but then the game just became so shitty with the sprinting, hunger bar, new bosses. Today it just isnt the same ol' sandbox game it used to be.

this is making me so nostalgic

I remember around when I was younger I played all of the Myst games (besides URU and the fifth one) with my dad. We would spend a long time just wandering around and looking at stuff. Most of the time we would just look up how to do the puzzles online, but it still made me become interested in puzzle games. In fact, some of the support styles on roller coasters and architecture I like come from the Myst games, which had crazy machines and strange buildings everywhere. I just remembered this after writing, but one of the things that got me in to roller coasters was this world in Myst 3 https://www.youtube....h?v=YqWexK8riPw  I can remember very clearly playing Myst 3, and being nervous to play sometimes because the Sirrus prison world always creeped me out so much. Still, those games were amazing, and it's weird to think that back when I played them they weren't that old.

It's crazy that you were able to do all those side builds without losing steam on Ion! Whenever I tried doing a side-build, I would always end up losing motivation and canceling the first one.

Something that a lot of you newer members won't remember were the SSC companies. Around 2009, we started creating different "companies", or clubs, on SSC. Each one got a private subforum to talk with the other members of that company. There were a lot of rules on how to hire members, progress reports, etc. We even had a full-fledged patent system. Standards were really high, and once you got into a company you were expected to contribute. Sometimes a coaster building company would have a storyboarding company write a back-story to their ride, or have a graphic design company design the logo. I teamed up with RightWayTrey to create "SteelWay Inventions", and we focused on innovation in our builds. We had some incredibly talented builders, including Jumpge, Old Hag, Max, DDRman, JPCoasters, and of course RightWayTrey...that's all I can remember. It was lots of fun though! I made a lot of friends through it, and the private discussions allowed us to come up with some really cool inventions. Heck, that's where RWT came up with the idea for Round About, and where JP invented the reverse-inclined lift that I later used on Invertigo and Deja Vu.

The companies were certainly the heyday of the site. They generated a lot of activity.

Anyone ever get in trouble at school for making coaster plans?

my best memories knex and summer wise would have to be summer of 2011 and 2012. I was in middle school then and everything just seemed so much simpler. No finals, assignments or applications to worry about. I just remember letting my imagination take control as I would build coaster after coaster with my knex. Also in 2012 I remember using RCT3 like crazy getting every mod I could and perfecting my parks

It's hard to believe it has been 10 years since I graduated high school. My last summer before college, I got my first laptop and immediately bought RCT3 since I finally had a computer to meet the requirements. I played it a decent bit, but always ran into memory issues when my parks got either too big or too crowded.

To this day I still get the urge to play RCT2... was always my favorite.  I actually tried finding it yesterday to install but no luck... I have it somewhere, haha.
