So after about a two years of building with micro, I finally expanded into SS! I've spent about two weeks messing with the track and supports and finally have decided to attempt a coaster. Sorry in advance if this is slow moving of just plain awful, like I said this is my first SS build. With that said, I can talk about the ride itself. I have no clue what to call what I'm going for, as it's not really a blitz coaster or a hyper, but it also has no inversions and will be small/compactAttached File  WP_20170111_23_26_33_Pro_LI.jpg   91.8KB   0 downloads

I currently have the lift and the first drop complete, and I'm planning to go right into an airtime hill before an overbanked turn (Unless I change my mind). The drop has very little shake, and I have no problems with the lift hill, but I want to make sure I get the shaping right before I move on, so tell me what you think. (If anyone's curious, the lift is about 3.25 ft. tall) Thanks for reading, and any feedback would be appreciated.

The lift hill looks great and that curve is beautiful. My only concern is from the second photo it looks like there might be a straight part in the drop and the pullout looks like it could be sharp. Could we get a side view of the drop and pullout because I can't really tell from the photos provided.

I don't think there's a straight spot based on the 4th pic. This does look good though! Stick too it!

This has some really nice shaping and I think it's a pretty good start to a layout as well. I would like to see some more pictures of the pullout though.

This looks pretty nice so far! I agree with the others there may be a straight spot and the pullout is a little tight but I'd need a better photo of it to be sure. Otherwise perfect so far!

Hope this helps, although I do think the pullout looks pretty tight. I'll probably go back and fix that today. Thanks for all the comments so far!

It looks really good. I would have guessed you were an experienced builder with SS style track. Definitely move on to the next element.

I stand corrected the pullout looks good. This is fantastic work. You definitely know to shape the track beautifully.

Well that confirms it - so far it's flawless! Looking forward to the next element :)

For this being your first time with SS, the shaping is phenomenal. Are you going to keep those box structures on the lift hill? Also, I haven't seen a construction thread being commented on this frequently in years. ;)

I'm not done building yet.

Really good work starting with an entirely new system!

Thanks, it definitely is a good bit more difficult than micro. :)

Hopefully the next elements hold up just as well :)

Thanks, and yes I do plan to keep the box supports on the lift hill, at least until I finish the layout.

----------

So this is actually a pretty big update, and I think I got quite a bit done. Firstly, I took out all the unnecessary parts of the base to save parts, but mostly just so that I could actually work on certain areas of the layout.

Attached File  WP_20170118_21_26_38_Pro_LI (2).jpg   90.34KB   0 downloads

Next, I extended the drop so that it now goes to the bottom of the base. The pullout looks much better now, but I forgot to get a picture,

After that came the first element...

An overbanked curve! In some of these photos, the shaping looks god awful, but I promise that its just weird angles. (The shaping really is fine)

After that was a curved drop...

Into an airtime hill! (This one is actually a bit rough at the peak)

And the last part of the update, a test video!

I run both a 3 and 4 car train in the video so please leave a comment either here or on the video voting for one.

Thanks for reading!

I feel a four car train would flow better but sometimes you have to get farther into the layout to find out.

To me the overbank seems uneven and elongated at the top. Like it should either be thinner or taller.
(I can post a pic of what I mean if needed for clarity).
The air hill. The pull in into the air hill looks great but the peak of the air hill is kinda sharp.
Just fix those and you will be fine.

Also are you meaning for it to be flying through every element like it is?

I agree with ^. There's some stuff to fix. I think 4 cars flow better. Keep it up!

Yeah four cars seem more fitting. There's some more stuff to fix like those ^ two said. One more thing in addition to that: in the curved drop picture (5th picture from the top), you forgot to connect the flexi to the X-tie where the track starts going up again. (A)

Changed my mind and re-did the lift hill with tubes. Thanks for the idea SCM ;)
