It's been a while since I've been able to start a new thread and I hope this one doesn't disappoint.

The Wicker Man has received pleasantly good reviews so far, but looking at it I don't think its going to set the world alight (no pun intended) as a top GCI.

One thing it does have on its side though is looks, aesthetically it's stunning, and that is why I've chosen to recreate it, because looks are the most important thing in model building.

As it's built on a slope, I've found a slight slope somewhere in my garden so the supports won't look massively out of proportion.

The roller coaster itself doesn't have a particularly long layout, so that should leave some pieces spare to focus on the theming and extra details. I've done a few little k'nex sculptures before, like the ship from Krake, and I'm really looking forward to giving the Wicker Man statue a go.

There's really not too much to look at yet, it's just to show you I have something in the pipeline.

I've built the odd lift hill, which changes angle half way up, and most of the first turn. I'll do my best to keep it to a decent scale but it's difficult as I could only find the plans before they decided to alter the first two drops.

I'll have a bit of time over Easter to do some more, but unfortunately I'll mostly be revising for finals. The big updates should come in sometime in July.

This looks like a really cool recreation. I watched videos on youtube of the new coaster and thought that it was a lot more awesome with the fire and smoke. If you are able to, you should try and add these special effects, it would make the ride even cooler!

...I'll mostly be revising for finals...

Is this a British saying? The only other place I've heard it is the Harry Potter books.

Heck to the yes. You're going to do this coaster so much justice! For one, I'm really into terrain coasters, but the fact that you're going to put lots of effort into the theming has me even more excited. The theming on Krake was great.

I agree, some fire or fog effects would put this over the top.

I guess. If I'm getting ready for exams that's always what I'd say. I don't 'study for exams' that sounds far too American for me. :P

To me, studying is learning new things and revising is going over stuff you 'should' already know.

Yeah, It's not a huge coaster so hopefully I'll have more than enough pieces for theming, but I imagine the woodie structure is going to use up a lot of pieces.

Don't hold your breath for fire or fog effects. I hadn't really considered them until you both mentioned them but I'll look into it, could be fun!

I've managed to get quite a lot done in the few days I've been back for Easter.  It's a bigger build than I thought it would be.

Hopefully I've got enough speed to get through the rest of the layout.

Apologies for the terrible pictures. I had to use my phone this time and the camera is only decent in good light.

I'm not happy with the supports yet. But I may need more pieces to add laterals etc.

I'll try and get a test video up this weekend if I can find a camera.

I see a sharp spot where you switch from flexis to gray rods, but otherwise the shaping looks great!

Thanks,

Whereabouts do you mean? There are a few places that switch from flexis to grays.

Made a start on the theming - first attempt at the ram side of the statue. I'm not completely satisfied yet, I tried to keep the colours consistent but it might be a bit too big. The horns need work too, and I'm not convinced with the eyes yet either.  What do you think?

You all need to stop with the great theming. You’re making me look bad, lol.

But I really like the rams head. Really impressed you were able to do that out of knex. Only suggestions I’d have are to finish/fix the the horns as you said, and also to alter the snout somehow to make it look more like a ram.

Also, the video is really good. I like how the train keeps its speed.

Getting a Balrog vibe from this. You are going to include real fire in this project, right? Or at least fake fire. Yeah, the eyes are a little weird due to the green flexis, but not necessarily noticeable at first glance. WAIT A MINUTE. What kind of dark sorcery are you using to make that granite rod float like that? I'm talking about the one in the middle.

I'm not done building yet.

Thanks guys. I'll keep working to improve the statue. And the middle rod is wedged in. :P

Almost finished the layout, the train just about makes it around the last few turns. Its quite a twisty layout so it loses speed fairly quickly.

Wow, that is impressive! You gotta have a good structure for the train to keep its speed though that whole thing.

This looks awesome so far! I would just say straighten the lift hill up a bit cause it looks a little saggy in one spot, but the catwalks look good as well. You may want to add a chain return guide to make the lift even more realistic! Maybe even a transfer track if you're up for the task, its not to hard.

Thanks! The lift is meant to be like that, it does look odd but the gradient changes around half way up the lift hill.

I will if I have enough pieces.

My God that thing hauls. I love the shaping and the length. You were able to conserve a lot of speed! I do think it is odd how the GCI chose to design the lift and that flat turn around section. I'm not too familiar with the real ride but it does seem very accurate. I can't wait to see the final video!

Hello

The concept art for the ride offers a taste of the extended track and its centerpiece.
