I'm not sure, but I think it means that the person that posted says he knows that he's spelling the word wrong, and doesn't know how to spell it right.

ex. Antidissastablishmintaryanysm (sp)

Okay, that might be it, and hey, the longest thread might be getting somewhere!

sp does in fact mean spelling, I know I sometimes use it if I know I am spelling a word incorrectly, I will just tack (sp?) on the end of the word so that people won't think I am a complete dumbass when I butcher a word. Heh heh.
