So I need something that can conver the videos I get of my ipod which are in mp4 format into something that windows movie maker can read.

would a program like this:

Free Video Converter - Any Video Converter Free Version - convert video to any formats, avi to MPEG, avi to MP4, flv to MPG

work for that task?

I don't know, I've never used it. But there are a lot of websites you can use, like freefileconvert.com, without having to download any programs.

I recommend you never to download any freeware video editing/converting programs as they are buggy and usually come with a ton of spyware.

Ya thats why I didnt want to have to one..... Now windows movie maker is being dumb and saying in need codecs to import vids...... i'll try it on my other computor or I might have to buy some stuff....

or ot be specific:

The file C:\Documents and Settings\Nick\My Documents\My Videos\RCT3\IMG_0017.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

video is formated in .avi

I've used Prism Video Converter for a long time, and it works great. You can download it for free here:

Video Converter Software. Convert avi wmv mpeg mov & other video formats

After a certain amount of days when you open the program you may get a message saying that the program trial has expired and prompting you to buy the full version. When that happens, you can go to control panel - add/remove programs, click "change/remove" for Prism Video Converter and then choose "downgrade to free version". After that you will be able to use the program as long as you want and you won't get any more messages prompting you to buy the full version.

All I can say is, don't use Windows Movie Maker, it's become a real bitch since it's now called Windows Live Moviemaker.

for me, i just edit the last few letters of the video, like "?????.MP3" to "?????.vid" or whatever it is and it works for me.

Digital Media Converter is a very good free audio video converter software that also converts every type of media file.

I recommend hand brake. It converts and compresses.
