March Model Madness is a contest takes a lot of work to put on, but is driven by the user. MMM is styled after the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament that takes place every March to determine the national champion. 64 teams are split into 4 brackets with 16 teams each. Based on the initial seeding, match-ups occur between two teams. The winner advances while the loser is out of the competition. This occurs until there is only one team remaining from each bracket. Those four models then compete in the Final Four. The two winners of the two Final Four match-ups play for the championship.

March Model Madness operates on the same principle, but, instead of playing the match-ups, polls between two models will be held in which users vote which model is better. In the end, the best model on the site will be determined. It breaks down like this, with the number of models competing in brackets and days to vote:

Play-In Round [8] - 1 Day
First Round [64] - 4 Days
Second Round [32] - 4 Days
Sweet Sixteen [16] - 4 Days
Elite Eight [8] - 4 Days
Final Four [4] - 3 Days
Championship [2] - 3 Days

The Play-In round is a new addition to the 2011 edition of MMM. In order to increase the number of models potentially in the contest, several models that were close to making the cut as a seed will get the chance to make it in as the number 16 seed in a bracket if they can win a poll match-up.

The brackets for the contest were created on the following basis:

Builders: models from current Builders or Veterans only.
Inventors: models that utilize custom technology.
Classicists: models created in or before 2007.
Underdogs: models that did not win any contests or awards.

Selecting the models to be in the contest is a very difficult process. Not every model is going to be included. The utmost care is not put into the seeding process because better models will always advanced. Outside of the top 4 seeds in each bracket, the seeding is not very subjective.

What do I do for March Model Madness?

All you have to do is visit the respective round forum (it will be clearly visible at the top of your screen on the forum home), click on the individual threads that contain a poll, and vote which model is better. Commenting on the match-ups is highly encouraged. You do not have to keep a vote secret. You can also vote for your own model.

Please vote in every poll every round for the best results. Vote based on the model, not the builder of the model. Be sure to check out the models with the links provided so you are familiar with what you are voting for.

Just an FYI that blow up match-ups may end early to begin other match-ups.
