I have here the starts of an interesting ride. I will not tell you what it is, that's your job! Every one of my posts will contain a hint along with whatever I am saying until yall guess it. This hint: The rides are stationary and located in the US, but I am just building one of them since they are almost identical.
And now some building pictures. These were a pain to build. Two circles, about 30 inches in diameter. I am getting ambitious I know. (Sorry about the pictures. I have a crappy camera and I really don't use it enough to go buy myself a decent one.)

Then we have the more finished version from the left. It has a border, and also some supports so that the piece stays nice and rigid for whatever I am using it for. And yes the black pieces are supposed to be there, not because I was running out of pieces or im color blind.

I don't think I am going to enter this into the summer heat. I don't want to feel rushed or anything. But hey if it is done it is going in. :)

Is the thing at the back with the yellow arm part of it? If so I was wondering if it was going to be a robot arm...

That isnt part of it. That was my last project that never got finished, a cable driven excavator. I was just too lazy to take it apart and am now salvaging parts off it.

Hint: Those circles are both floors, almost like there would be 2 levels..... ;)

Update! I have had some time today so I finished the other floor and then attached them to each other. I won't have time to do much of anything tomorrow so then next update won't be till Wednesday or Thursday.

Seems there is two levels! There will be a ceiling to this ride in the next update.

Hint: If you have ever been to Six Flags Great America you have walked past it. No other way once you are into the park.

Yes. More specific it is a double decker carousel. :)

Okay time got away from me on this one. I didn't forget about the project, its just my laziness to update. :(

But hey we all get around to it eventually. So here is the update:

I went along to build the ceiling and then above this will be the gearing mechanism to move the horses. How the unit spins is still up in the air at this time. Any suggestions? Mind you this weighs about 20 lbs so just lifting it up and supporting it on one centre rod isn't going to work. Going to have to be some sort of perimeter drive I am thinking.... So the 106 horses, yes I said 106, 53 on each level, are now built, just need some linkage arms between them which should come after the gearing mechanisms up top. Then pieces permitting, a nice building that stays stationary over the top of everything. Then it all ends up looking a lot like this:

Well not exactly like that, but pretty similar. Not a very good recreation. (worried) Anyhow time for updated pictures. Just for size reference, 32 inch diameter (81 cm) and 27 inches tall (68 cm)

That is some impressive cavalry! THe horses look awesome! But is it just me or is the top leaning over a bit?

Thanks!

I love them too. All 106 of them are the exact even to the color of pieces used. Thought about making different styles but decided not to.

The lean in the 1st picture was the camera angle I think. But my update here has a slight lean I think in it which should be fixed eventually.....

UPDATE: Completion date has just been set back. Slight modifications have caused the entire structure to lean VERY SLIGHTLY to one side as you can see here. These are just a bit out of allowed tolerances. I can assure you the ride is still completely safe! ;)

*wonders how the horses stay in place*

Like the concept of this though I did see the wheel on the bottom under a lot of stress, you might want to beef that up a little

Every post is a love letter to a forum once full of innovation

I realize I dropped out of here for a while. Like a long while. But I did get this project done. A few less horses than I started with. Still has 48 horses. Two Layers. First Knex Double Decker I know of.

Awesome work, it works smoothly. I like the concept of a double decker carousel as well, I do not often see a K'NEX version of them.
