The poster and ferris wheel do look meant for each other. Did you know about the poster beforehand and build the ferris wheel, taking into account the poster dimensions?

That must be annoying, having children touching the ferris wheel that is very prone to deforming. Heck, children touching the model alone must be annoying! I always forget that display models are exposed to dangers that a regular model, on display to yourself, at your house, would not be exposed to.

Nope, it turned out to be the perfect size. The wheel was built to work, the perfect match is a nice addition :)

Usually the display models are not in reach for visitors. Generally we put them behind a fence of some sort, but because the toy fair is for children we don't want to put up boundaries. We want it to have an open and friendly look. Once you start putting up "Do Not Touch" signs on the models, you're killing that friendly vibe we are aiming for. It's definitely a risk. Though, you're scaring kids once you tell them not to touch the models, nobody likes to be set straight and when a strange adult goes up to a kid you're bound to see some tears. So we just let them play with it, we stay nearby, if something goes wrong or if they are to violent with the models we correct them.

From a BOTI point of view they were quite surprised we didn't bring any fencing or signs, they know the value of the models and the effort that goes into them. They are very liberal in my eyes, if I'd like to plaster the entire room in Dutch Details banners or stickers they wouldn't mind the slightest, but I'm there to promote a product, not myself. If people want more info, we do have a single banner in the room and some business cards.

In conclusion, it's our choice to let people touch the models.

Next weekend we will be celebrating Dutch Details' 5th birthday with BOTI and they have a present for us, more on that later ;)

I'd like to go back to one of the first replies in this thread, where it says that this ride is considered medium-sized. I found that to be a funny statement. Here's Ring of Fire compared to Max and me.

And that present is quite something! It is a customized version of the new K'NEX roll-up banners that will be used all over the world, if I am correct. The slogan "The K'NEX Big Thing" really suits us well, don't you think?

I'm sorry if the images are rotated 90 degrees. They appear fine on my computer, but I have encountered this issue before with phone pictures.

Pictures are fine. I also wasn't sure if it was medium sized, not it for sure looks like it is not. That pun on the banner actually made me thing for a second. I got it once I read it out loud. It is amazing how much recognition you guys have gotten! I guess our whole community has gotten more too..

It's actually the first new style banner printed. We recieved the original PSD files (which were HUGE!) and we were allowed to make changes. All we did was add our logo, the facebook link and our two models. The rest is what K'NEX will be using themselves too. Once they have switched over to the new banners we will also recieve the banner you see behind the wheel. They compliment eachother so well :)

About the size of the model, Gump is actually 6ft4, he's a giant. RoF is even bigger...

We had a fun thing happen on the 2nd Saturday when we just put up the banner. Very early that day a kid came up to us and asked with all seriousness where he could buy the "K'NEX Big Thing" models. Gump and I chuckled while we had to explain that those are not models you can buy.

BOTI is aiming to make K'NEX their leading brand, it's quite surprising they actually got he distribution rights because they are a fairly small company, which is what they told us. So they rely on the community to make it as big as it was before :)

I had to take off more gondolas, as it proved a little too unreliable, running all day when a kid presses the button. As the electronics are suitable for up to 4 motors, I will double the amount of motors in RoF from 2 to 4. Considering the size, the popularity and the fact that children constantly put little figurines in the gondolas, it is not a bad idea to do so.

Well well well... this weekend I adjusted the motor assemblies and doubled the number of motors. Unfortunately that did not solve the problem, as the friction between the running wheels and the rotating ring wasn't large enough. This was solved by inserting the larger K'NEX wheels, making sure that the friction between the wheels and the tires were large enough, too. Another major adjustment was the different appliance of pressure to the running wheels. Instead of the two wheels pulled towards the center, they are now pushed. It can easily be seen on the pictures.

That's a pretty compact and nice gearbox, if you are really having friction problems maybe take ducttape or something that has a non-slippery surface and apply it to the ring.

The ride functions perfectly, so there is no need to do that. Nor would it be wise.

Was this inspired by another ride, or did you come up with this completely by yourself? I'm sorry if I bumped it a little, and I don't mean to ask a dumb quistion but I have no idea how you cam up with it. Is there a real ride like this?
