Hello all,

I'm looking for a description of the steel rod needed for the 6' Ferris wheel.

 

I'm told its the same length as the metallic green rods (128mm). Is this true?

 

Does the rod have the standard k'nex ends?

Is the rod fluted? (are the grooves on the shaft from end to end)?

 

I have a friend that has a metal lathe and may be able to make one for me. 

The only problem will be the fluting on the shaft, as he does not have a milling machine.

Looking at the instruction manual on Knex.com, it looks like the rod has standard K'nex ends on both ends. Your length is way off; the structure is 5 blue rods wide and the steel rod goes across it in it's entirety. So put together 2 red rods and a blue rod together with orange connectors, and that'll be your length. Also, there are no slots or grooves in the rod (except for the standard connecting ends).

Wow, you are right about the length, but I found this  "39.1 cm (15.4 in)".  The configuration you gave (2 Red rods, 1 Blue rod and 2 orange connectors) is about 14".

 

Not having the grooves on the shaft makes it easier.

Oops, I missed another connector and a short green rod. That'll make up the rest of the difference.
