Hi all,

I'm surprised nobody has made a piece that converts front SS cars to middle cars. I know ForgotToGrowUp has been wanting this part for over 2 years, but nobody has made it. So I decided to create the  piece for this. It is a connector. On one half it has a ball joint that connects to the back of a middle car. On the other half is the connector that is used to connect the front section of the front car to the back section of the front car (right next to the chain-dog). If that doesn't make sense, then maybe these pictures will help...

Attached File  coaster1.png   457.83KB   4 downloads

Attached File  coaster2.png   316.16KB   1 downloads

The .stl file can be found at my GrabCad: https://grabcad.com/...ss-car-piece-1

This is my first version of the piece. I can't print it and test it until next Monday or Tuesday. The model is accurate in terms of measurements, but I have a feeling that it wont work because of something like the plastic shrinking during the print. Look out for an update soon!

Thanks

David

Ps. Staff: Is this thread in the  correct sub-forum?

Sorry if I spoil the feeling of you being first but I actually printed these over a year ago but never posted them :P and they've actually been used too!
They work really well and that's with me using a fairly low quality print, only thing is that they can be a little stiff until worn in but no need to worry about the plastic shrinking.
I gave Chris, CW5X, a couple to use on Gargantuan and Minotaur and they proved to work well, especially if you need a rear chain dog. I'm also going to be using the myself soon on a school project which I need rear chain dogs on.
Looking forward to seeing how these turn out for you! :)

Edit: forgot to mention there's actually one on my Kiddy Coaster train for the back car!

Ahh, that makes more sense. It's such a simple piece I was surprised I couldn't find anything about it. I'm glad to here that it works well. I'll try print it out today so we will see how it goes. Thanks!

Quick update...

I printed the piece and it looks good. But the 3D printer I have is knew so I'm still figuring out the parameters for the extruder, bed, etc. and therefor the piece came out with all the layers messed up. Will be trying again tomorrow!

They're so useful to have. Makes it so much easier to build lifts without the chain ending half way down the drop and they can be smoother to run because of it. Wish I had access to a 3d printer though so I could print more.

The final piece is complete. Anyone can grab the file and print it.
