Yes I know I'm about 3 weeks late on this...

I'm no master builder like most of you, and I usually only build these things every few Christmases. Though this year I decided to build a coaster in my home office (separate post coming for that) and I was really curious how much I could elevate my Christmas coaster using the ball bearing assemblies so I pretty much maxed out my pieces (track, connectors and rods) in building this...definitely my longest and most complex model to date with some serious Space Mtn/Matterhorn vibes

:)

A few notable stats...

  • Over 6 feet high
  • 6 passes inside the tree
  • 4 moments of airtime
  • About 5 SS sets, plus some extra lots from eBay
  • 1 very pissed off cat, not happy I took over his tree  :D
  • About 20 hrs of total build time

Utilizing the cat tree and stairwell bars for support helped immensely to conserve pieces

Here's a few more pics

Here's a couple videos. Hopefully YouTube doesn't take them down due to copyright. First one is a static shot with Twinkly LED lights sync'd to music

The other is a longer one showing the coaster from multiple angles

Looks really cool? do you happen to have a video of it in action?

I think the way you supported those turns is really interesting. It's like a box version of Cheetah Hunt supports. One critique I do have is that the transitions tend to be very sudden. 2nd picture from the bottom - the bottom of the turn turns too much and it keeps that angle for longer than it should be. For the angle you have here to look better, I would personally remove the support with the V connector (the one to the right) and lower the track by a few inches. The angle at the bottom of that turn should be less than that of the angle of the top of the turn.

I'm not done building yet.

Absolutely love it.  Reminds me of the Christmas coasters of old!

Looks great man.  Love the incorporation around the Christmas tree.  20 hours is a pretty fast build!

Makes me want to whip something up for the holidays as well.  That would be a great christmas decoration tradition. :)
