Posted Image
KINGDA KA

Well it's that time of year again, school is starting, parents bounce off the walls beccause of our grades. But some of us die heart fans of k'nex continue to build taller, faster, and better than ever before. This is especailly true for Coastercrazy10.

Even shaq would look like an ant standing next to this thing. This model is HUGE. First k'nex coaster to be seen from space? No? Oh well...

Congradulations to Coastercrazy10 for completeing his model that is worthy of the title, Top Model.

You will be able to start voting for Top Model #4 tommorrow starting at midnight, and at that time, you will be able to start nominating your models for Top Model #5!

The air is turning colder, the leaves are falling, which means a couple of things. (1) Yard work for our parents to torture us with, (2) The holidays are coming and mistletoe will leave everyone asking "who was that?" and most importantly, (3) THE THIRD ANNUAL SSC AWARDS!

Thats right! The SSC Awards are BACK! Bigger, better, and the hopefully the best turnout we've had ever! As many of you are aware, last year went haywire when I had a unexpected family emergency and couldn't post the results for the for about a month. I'm looking forward to happy holidays and a smooth sail for the awards.

I'm requesting help from three members. I need people who can help out with the awards to make these awards awsome. If your interested, PM me information about what you could do to help out and I'll pick three people who I think could help out a great deal.

The following dates are the list of steps in the awarding process

October 15th- Catigories are Released
November 1st- Nomination Begins
Decemeber 1st- Voting Begins
January 1st- Winners are announced!

Again those of you who can help out, PM me. Just to let you know, I'm mainly looking for those with expierence in a graphic program. For those of you who are new to the site, when nominating, you CAN NOT nominate yourself, you must nominate someone else.

See you in October!

Colossus-Record breaking coaster in construction.
By Coastercrazy10

After the spectacle made over Olympus, Colossus is a new coaster by K’nexKoasterKreator. This enormous coaster is to shatter the previous height record by 3 feet, totaling out at a whopping 28 feet. K’nexKoasterKreator is building his record-breaking coaster at his school. He’s having help from classmates as various students have contributed to the effort by letting him use their K’nex. Not much else is known about this coaster, but look for it within a month or two!

A new little thing I added this month, FLASHBACKS!

Here we'll look at important events that happend here at SSC! Since today is the offical nomination start for the SSCA, I though we could have a history from the first one...

On January 2004, the results for the 2003 SSC Awards were posted. At this point, the awards were still relitivly small. Even so, Coasterfreak11 blew away the competition winning four awards. He may not build anymore, but he will always be remembered here for building great models.

This month for Top Model, we have a small, but a very interesting set of coasters up for the Top Model title. I'm going to talk about two coasters that stuck out to me the most, without favoring anybody. Werewolf was in the works for almost two monthes, and what a coaster it is. It's got everything a good k'nex coaster should have. Inlcuding a tunnel, inversions, and plenty of surprises for the little k'nex people to enjoy, while we watch. :(
The second coaster I would like to talk about is the huge entrance coaster by 2Chillers. He recreated the Vekoma Boomerang coasters that are found in most parks. This one, in my opinion is the most accurate model of one to date. Everyone wants to know how it works, possibly a new coaster fad here? I hope not. Good luck to both nominees for Top Model!

White Water Landing
By: Rollerdude

White Water Landing, one of Cedar Point’s three water rides is going to be demolished at the end of 2005. The 23-year-old ride that is located in Frontier Town has had its glory days and is ready to be replaced. This action-packed water ride sends its passengers through four challenging water conditions, from meandering past a lagoon to cascading over a 50-foot-high waterfall. Built by Huss Arrow, the ride covers 5 acres and has 38, five-passenger, fiberglass canoes with simulated wood grain. WWL is 50 feet high and has a top speed of 35 miles per hour. White Water Landing features a “hydro-jump” at the base of the 45-foot drop that causes the canoe to skim across the run-out area, splashing water in all directions.

The park is trying to make room for new development and 5 acres is a lot of space to fit a roller coaster and a couple of flat rides. Many rumors have stated that WWL was going to be removed. Other rumors have stated that a new roller coaster would go in its place as well as some flat rides. White Water Landing is going to leave with another ride, Demon Drop, which the park announced that they were selling in mid August.

This makes everyone think, “What is Cedar Point going to build now?” Cedar Point just announced Skyhawk, a 103 foot tall screamin' swing. It will not go where WWL used to be. Many people disagree with this decision because the park just added a similar ride, maXair. Valleyfair just announced that they are building Xtreme Swing, an S&S screamin swing. More rumors are that Cedar Point will build dueling flying coasters for Dick Kinsel’s (CEO) big bang in 2007. There is even more speculation about the park adding a gargantuan floorless coaster or the elusive 500 footer in the near future.

Superior Top Model Nominees
By Sixflagsfreak56

With this years addition of Top Model, we added the new categorie to the awards this year to find out which model was the best built this past year. Heres a list of all the nominees and my likes and dislikes for them.

Top Model #1 Winner: Maelstrom- Coasterguy
* Wow, what a model. Everything I've always liked about Coasterguy's buildings seems to be built right in to here. Head choppers, and inversion turn after turn. Though compact, packs quite a punch. Seems quite a few people agree here, since almost half of all the votes were for Maelstrom. I absolutly no complaints for this model.

Top Model #2 Winner: Venom- Nitroryder33
* Who ever knew that your first model on the site could plan you a win for Top Model. That is exactly what Nitroryder33 did with his winning model Venom. This model was sappose to be a Nitro recreation, but was cut short because it wouldn't have made the whole circuit. Anyways, this model was pertculary good for a few reasons, one, the station was awsome, and very realistic with a real wooden roof. Two, the transitions between each hill and turn were worked in beautiful. The only thing that was kind of a disappointment was how it was a little short, but none the less, a great model.

Top Model #3 Winner: Kingda Ka- Coastercrazy10
* For a person who hasn't even been on the ride, it's a pretty damn good recreation. Standing just over seventeen feet, this model will look down upon all the other Top Model winners. A great model indeed, but with the over-use of this model, I'm going to have to knock points off for the lack of creativity, but he'll gain it back when I get to Top Model #5.

Top Model #4 Winner: Twin Turbo- Toastermaface333
* Will always be looked at as the most emotional and dramatical Top Model to date. A model got disqualified, fights started up, and member temorary left. Through it all, Twin Turbo took the title for Top Model by only two votes, almost losing to Olympus. Twin Turbo is a very good racing model, that kept in synch very well! The ride layout was good and creative. The only down side I saw was the lack of supports at some places, and I'm pretty picky about supports. Overall, deffnetly an original and great model.

Top Model #5: Inclination- Coastercrazy10
* To win Top Model is a pretty big accomplishment, to win it twice is a bigger one! Coastercrazy10 did just that when he won his second Top Model, Inclination. The big thing I love about this coaster is the use of supports, and how smooth this coaster is. I was amazed when I saw how amazing and how I saw not one crooked peice of track. The cobra roll was original and a never been done before anywhere else. Though good, I do have a complaint. I would've like to see more than a twist, drop, cobra roll, and few bunny hills. Besides the complain, Coastercrazy10 is Top Model god...but how long til someone takes the crown!

Top Model #6: Terminator- SebasZs
* What happens when you put in a little bit of dutch influences in to a coaster? Well obviously the worlds most perfect k'nex heartline! This element stood out to me the most in his model. He also made a fantasic pretzel loop in his model. Though all the elements were the highlight of this model, they did seem quite random and almost un-planned. I think beore you start a model you show have a brief idea of how the coaster will look. Also, the coaster didn't "flow" in to the elements one after another. Besides those complaints, this was over-all a very good model by SebasZs and I think we can expect more great things from him in the future.

As Thanksgiving passes, and the air around us gets much colder, the holiday setting takes over and the ambition to beat people up in Wal-mart to get the last "Tickle Me Elmo" sets in. While the injured sit in a hospital bed, we have much to be thankful for here at SSC. As SSCoasters posted not to long ago, back in October was SSC's third birthday. So in addition to the third year of SSC, we have the third annual SSC Awards!

The nominations are in, and I am ready to release them coming up in just a few moments, also we have a new top model, Terminator by SebasZs. Of course, we also go the SSC Newsletter for the month of November. Rollerdude sent in a article (which I should've posted last month) about Cedar Points new S&S ride. Check out the article about all the nominations for Superior Top Model award, my personal likes and dislikes.

Happy Holidays!

Though 2006 may not be the biggest year for thrill rides this season, it's a big year for top theme parks around the country, and even some over seas. I'll be counting down the top five biggest anticipated rides opening in 2006.

5) Voyage: What happens when you combine wood, 24.2 seconds of air-time, and a brand new holiday...to an amusement park? You get the new Thanksgiving section opening at Holiday World, in Santa Claus Indiana. The new coaster is called Voyage, and it looks like it could pack quite a punch. The coaster will first lift riders 173 feet in the air, and drop them down 154 feet. The ride will also include a huge amount of tunnels, five total. During the nearly three minute ride, you will also go through three 90 degree banked turns. Give thanks this year, for the new Voyage.

4) Tatsu: The new coaster being installed at Six Flags Magic Mountain this year will be the parks first coaster in three years. The new coaster, Tatsu will also be the west's first flying coaster. Besides being the regions first coaster of it's kind, Tatsu will also be the longest, tallest, and fastest flying coaster in the world. Set a top Sumurai Summit, the coaster will be 170 feet tall and reach speeds of 62 mph. Because it's on a hill, the coaster will expirence 263 feet in elevation change. The coaster will be given an asian theme, and will feature four inversions. Siince none of the recent Magic Mountain coasters have received any sort of set theme or any themeing, I'm curious to see if they will do anything with Tatsu. The coaster is set to open in the spring.

3) El Toro: For the first time in ten years, Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey as/is building two coasters in back to back seasons. The last time they did this was in 1995, with Viper, and then in 1996 with Skull Mountain. Oddly enough, Viper, which celibrated it's 10th birthday by being removed from the park, is now having a brand new coaster put in it's former place. This season, El Toro will be the highlight of the 2006 year, along with a brand new section, Plaza De Carnival, and a new kids area, Bugs Bunny National Park. The project comes along with a numerous projects to help make Six Flags a destination park. El Toro will stand 188 feet and have the steepest drop on any other wooden coaster in the world. Seventy-six degrees of pure weightlessness is what I'm talking about. Besides being a world record breaker, the new coaster, designed by Intamin will be the first wooden coaster to include a cable lift system. Start making your summer vacation plans now and head over to Jackson in 2006!

2) Black Mamba: Whoever said pictures speak a thousand words, was right. If anyone saw this rides concept art back in September of 2005, you know what I'm talking about. If any coaster ass amazed me just be the artwork, it's this coaster. Phantasialand, located in Germany will be getting an inverted coaster this year from Bolliger and Mabillard that looks to good to be true. If the real ride looks anything like the art, I will be stunned. The coaster has four inversions, and the coaster will also travel underground at some points, and is rumored to have a resturant fly-by. Though it's still to early to tell, this looks like a coaster on the top of everyones wish lists.

1) Expedition: Everest: Back in 1999, I went to Animal Kingdom and proudly named it the worst park at the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida. Well, in 2004, I was searching on rcdb for new rides already announced for 2006. I saw that Disney was already planning to open a ride, and thought nothing of it. Well, for being the tallest "mountain" in florida, it better be something. Vekoma is at it again twisting our minds like never before, in helping to build Expedtion: Everest. If you haven't seen this thing yet, you either 1) live in a hole or 2) yetiphobic. The mountain itself is 200 feet tall, and the ride will be the most expensive single project ever at Disney. A total of 100 million dollars was dumped in to this coaster. To put that in to perseption for some of you, Top Thrill Dragster cost 25 million dollars. The track itself only goes to a height of 112 feet, but don't judge a ride by it's height. After reaching your destined heigh, be prepared for a twist, no I'm serious. The coaster will travel both backwards and forwards while traveling trough the 4400 feet of track in the mountain. The top speed will be 50 mph and the heightest drop will be unheard of...for Disney. The coaster will take a 80 foot dive out of the mountain in to a brush of bamboo. Now I don't know about other people on the site, but when I go for my senior trip in high school, this is my first stop on the trip. There is also an animatronic yeti in the mountain to make the yetiphobics piss their pants. Hopefully, this will be the end of the mountain rides at Disney. (Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Expedition: Everest, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad)
