I am trying to make a vertical drill lift could someone give me some pointers
because it just isnt working well

If you post pictures, we may be able to help more. The only things I can say without pictures are make sure that the pull-in to your lift (or the crest) isn't too tight. The train may be rubbing against the chain if the chain is floating at the pull-in. Another thing is that the train might be not catching onto the chain. just put a piece of foam underneath the chain-dog and make sure it's nice an snug, it should now spring back up if pressed down even when the train is vertical

That might be why it isnt caching

You can also use a rubber band. just put it under the chain dog then bring it over the car and make it loop around the socket on the back.

Automation is my specialty
 

If only I had more space/pieces/time.

Could you post a picture of the rubber band around the chain dog?
