I live in Columbus about halfway between KI and CP. I still consider KI my home park since I used to live 10 minutes away. Idk what should happen with that park. For a start, I have a big bag of marshmallows and I am waiting for the campfire when KI burns that 200 foot tall pile of wood. I think it could use a B&M invert, but rumor has it CP has some deal with the company so that one cannot be built within 200 miles of raptor (KI is 169 miles away). I think a floorless would fit the park well because vortex has seen better days. Even a dive machine would be nice, something that CP does not have. I would settle for anything as of now, but I don't think CF is gonna give it to KI. With CP so close, I think KI will turn into more of a family park. And now that CP is probably getting one, I think KI needs a wingrider, but I guess all hope is lost for that now.
I find that rumor ridiculous because even if it was true, Cedar Fair would void it for Kings Island. And Cedar Point and Kings Island are 4 hours apart, which really is not that close. If you think Kings Island is going to get the Geauga Lake (hour and half apart) treatment, you're wrong. KI secures a good chunk of the market in Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia, and Cedar Fair will never give that away to Holiday World or Kentucky Kingdom. Plus Cedar Fair gave KI both Firehawk and Diamondback in it's early years of control, and that is a strong sign of commitment. Plus I know a lot of KI regulars who paid the extra for a Platinum Pass to make a visit or two to CP, and that goes both ways. In terms of attendance, KI matched CP last year and both had the highest attendance for US seasonal parks (also more than Six Flags Magic Mountain, a year-round park). Kings Island majorly benefits Cedar Fair as it is, and they aren't going to let it drop to anything less.
Well mine is Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, and well they have everything, but I think they really need a WingRider and mostly because I want to ride one, and based on my predictions I think they are getting a new coaster in 2017 (Maybe that's my chance!!)
I think you guys could use a B&M hyper. There needs to be more airtime at that park.

I thought KI had more annual attendance than Cedar Point. The website said it was the most attended seasonal amusement park in the U.S.A.

For 2011, Cedar Fair announced CP and KI attendance at 3,143,000 each. But KI had a slight lead in 2010.

That's very true, KI does secure most of the market for local areas. Even here in Columbus, most people choose KI over CP even though it is only a 1/2 hour longer drive. I personally have been taking advantage of being closer to CP even though I only have a KI gold pass, but for some reason most of my friends don't even mention the park. I guess I'm just a little disappointed since the biggest thing we've gotten after DB is Windseeker, which as a ride turned out disappointing. 2013 doesn't look very hopeful either. Maybe 2014 when SoB is dead and gone...

Carowinds needs a Suspended-swinging coaster. You don't see those types much.
Major suspended coasters are "dead", with the last one being built in 1993. A total of 13 were made between 1981 and 1993; 10 by Arrow, 3 by Vekoma. Even rides from then are starting to disappear, as spare parts and maintenance are now very expensive with Arrow out of business. Vekoma made an upgraded floorless suspended coaster car in the early 2000s, but hasn't gone back since. Sorry to say, it very likely won't happen.

One way of looking at it is that there's no good way to get to CP from Columbus. To get to KI, all you have to do is get on I-71 and it's a fairly straight shot. CP doesn't have that luxury, and it is the reason why KI does better in the Columbus market than CP.
Trust me, I understand the frustration, especially watching KD get I305 a year after DBack. A lot of this was also bad luck with timing in terms of SoB, because Rocky Mountain made the Texas Giant splash in 2010. If we slow down and look at the SoB timeline, KI voluntarily shut it down in June 2009 (after some bitch bitched about an injury two months after she rode it...). The rest of the year and offseason, they had certified inspectors come and look at every part of the ride. Then in November 2009, this happens. Suddenly KI and CF are faced with a whole new and different option on SoB. I believe it was truly in the company's best interest to wait at that point; wait to see how Texas Giant turned out, talk to Rocky Mountain, and evaluate financials. The fact that they waited over 3 years on a decision means that they took their time and looked at every aspect and angle to make a solid and fully thought out decision. What if they decided to rashly tear it down starting September 2009? Would we have criticized them for being impatient? Or in 2011, would we again be upset that New Texas Giant is a hit and KI and CF didn't even consider it? I knew Son of Beast was a sticking point for KI and that nothing major would be added until a decision was made. But now it has been made and the park is moving forward.
My advice to you inverted, get a platinum pass and enjoy Cedar Point's new Wingrider for 2013. Because everybody knows that 2014 or 2015 at King's Island is going to be BIG!

I think every park needs one of those.
Unfortunately, they're not made anymore, and their numbers are dwindling :'(
If only one of these great manufacturers would bring that concept back...

I'd love Thorpe to get... well, we've got a Wingrider, launched, looper, eurofighter, invert..... It would have to be a decent megacoaster. We've got more than enough flat rides
Alton Towers could really use an original sitdown. B&M looper perhaps. Maybe even just a woodie to add to their flyer, invert, launched and dive machine.
CWOA needs... help.
And Adventure Island needs to scrap the family theme a bit and get another decent coaster. Maybe they could get a traditional boomerang parallel to the pier (get rid of the Scorpion and the A1 karting even.)

While it is true that you kinda have to wind around rural roads to get to CP from here, it's not that much of a hassle and is actually more interesting to drive than a straight-shot freeway (though most people may not have this opinion) .
With Diamondback on the other side of the park, I probably wouldn't have cared for the Texas Giant treatment on SoB. Also, the lady that complained about her injury was at the wrong place at the wrong time. It has never been stated by officials that she was the cause of the closure of the ride.
I hope KI does not let us down for 2014 or 2015, but as for here and now, I'm just waiting for the giant campfire.

She did come to the park though and complained, and the park voluntarily closed it after that. I believe that info is on record in the lawsuit case.
