How much room is there for customizing in one SS kit? Also another question, since i'm new to this hobby, does the SS kit come with a lot of supports, because from the pictures from google, it looks like I would need to buy at least one more SS set to make a bigger coaster or a woodie.

Yeah with 1 SS you can't do much. If you have other sets it is useful but I think as a Guideline atleast 2 SS is necessary. Probably 3 though.

The SS is a good set. I would get another if I were you. An extra set will help with part count and another train as well.

I have 1 Screamin Serpent and 1 Storm Mountain. You can make custom coasters but they have to be well planned. That means no 5 foot tall lift hill. I'd say start with a 2ft lift hill. You also need more than a SS worth of parts for supports.
Use this tutorial but use 4 x-ties per flexi instead of 6. Don't use less than that.

And don't use center tubeing.

Also another question, what is the difference between having tubing in the middle of the x track connectors, and not having them there? Is it like a flexibility aspect or something?

It adds some rigidity and looks a lot better ;)

^^ A third rail of tubing in the middle is one way to increase the strength and stiffness in the track. Other ways include adding extra rods, as you'll see on some of the bigger coasters here.

RRs are great ways to get more of the matalic support pieces that only come in the coaster sets. It also provides crossties and turack tubing, usually in yellow in red but some RRs come with green Xties. RRs are often about half the price of a SS. But you are going to need SS to get chain and cars. You can get a lot of support peices from some of the other big builds like Big Ball Factory but they are in bright colors, not metalic. Once you get a a few coaster sets you can then start to supplement by buying specific pieces like granite rods, which you always use a lot of. Woodies use a ton of pieces, so if plan to make your first one small.

Does it matter if you put the chain links in the same direction? or no.

I HIGHLY suggest you to have the chain links' openings facing UPWARDS on the lift (which means they are facing downwards when they return underneath the track).

Why, what difference does it make?

oh my, never question the Gump!

(it makes the chain less likely to come apart)
