Hello,

So I will attempt to build an automated elevator lift, and I have a structure ready.

The lift is not yet working as I want it, so I might need to make another design...

The code for the gates of the station is almost ready, I want to finish that tonight.

Here are some pictures of the structure so far:

overview:

top of the lift:

sensor to detect train (reed switch):

Attached File  IMG_5065.JPG   73.4KB   0 downloads

Motor and servo motor under the station platform:

Attached File  IMG_5064.JPG   126.34KB   0 downloads

These rods guide the lift in the right place:

Attached File  IMG_5067.JPG   122.69KB   0 downloads

Attached File  IMG_5066.JPG   127.8KB   0 downloads

So the bottom of the lift works, but the top isn't.

I don't know yet how to fix that problem, any suggestions?

Also name suggestions are welcome ;)

Edit:

I uploaded a video on youtube:

^Yes,  I wonder where he got that idea from :P

Anyway, what you've got so far looks nice and regular, to an extent that you might just be able to get the track to line up, presuming you modify it slightly! Nice stuff!

I think your problems arise from the fact that you don't have heavy enough counterweights, so the chain is too loose to get proper purchase.  Try weighting those tyres(?) you've got attached to the chain, and hopefully, that should make it work! If not, install two lift motors on the left and right sides, pulling up two chains instead of one.

As for moving the train off the lift - maybe try chain?

Anyway, from personal experience...good luck ;) This looks fantastic so far, so I hope you can pull it off!

As one elevator project ends, another one begins. You'd almost think it was planned... The automation will make this one really cool when you have it all figured out. Good luck.

As for getting the train off the lift modify the track on the lift. Just cut off the tabs but leave the clip piece so the track still angles down so gravity does the rest.

I shall deal with this Jedi slime, Myself!

Thanks for the comments and tips!

Sorry Batwing, I got the idea of building one before I knew you were building one as well :P . Maarten12 inspired me though.

Anyway, about that lift:
The idea was to add a motor to the bottom of the lift. So the motor pulls the lift down and the weight of the tires pulls it back up.

But this update is to show the station.
The automatisation is now complete, yay :D

In the video I mensioned I would work on the lift, but I started building the brakes as wel.

Haha, that's ok! And this looks great - if you get the automation to work, this should be really impressive!  Just keep persisting and experimenting until you find an answer.

Everything looks nice and clean so far!

(Seriously though, you really missed out on the opportunity to praise me ;) )

So, another update :D

The brake system is finished. After some failed desings, I found one which works really well.

All I have to do is finish the program for it (which is nearly done).

I also did some work on the lift, the motor to lift the lift (hehe) is now attached. I didn't fixed the release thing tough.

Here are some pictures:

Close up of the mechanism (the counterweight is to make it easier for the servo)

Now for the lift:

The motor is attached to the cylinder to roll up/unroll the wire.

Now that the brake is done, I'm forced to finish the damn lift :P

I got the brake to work :)

Not a big update but it's something, right?

Now that it's holidays I can build a bit more.

I'm planning on building the drop with the curved pieces. Which will be the first time I use them for a drop.

Here is a video of the brakes :)

Wow that was really a really unique way of stopping the train. I'm pretty sure that way will be used by other people. Great job.
