So I've been thinking about making a launched coaster next. I am using a drill to launch it. I'm also using a gear acceleration system to make it even faster. The gears start with the (biggest) yellow gear and go to the red gear and then to the smallest blue gear. From what I can see, it appears that it really does help increase speed. So my question is how many feet high could a 3 cart weighted train be launched from a drill and gear acceleration system roughly. I know it's really hard to say, but this is my first time attempting a launch like this so I'm not exactly sure what to exptect. Any help will be aprecciated. Thanks!

It depends of what you are using for weight, what you have used for lube, and the speed of the train.
But dont worry about any of that. You can usually get a rough idea and adjust the height of the hill from there with no need to worry about any math.

Really difficult to answer your question... Length of the launch, speed of the drill, how much the train weighs, etc. For something like this I would just say trial and error is your best bet...
Just build something and then modify the gearing on your launch if you have to. I probably didn't help much... lol

Thanks for the help. I plan for the launch strip to be around 8 feet long and I will lubricate and weight my train. I hope to get a lot of speed from the drill spinning the yellow gear which spins the blue gear. The gears that attach to the chain would be on the same rod that the small blue gears are on. Would it be reasonable to say that with this I might be able to get around 4 feet of height? I know it's hard to say, so I'll just go with trail and error, but I'd kinda like to have a guess. Again thanks for the help!
