It's been a while. Almost 2 years.

It's been a busy last 8 months or so. I started my first job as a doctor back in August and with all that's going on at the moment it might get a bit busier. My new 'covid' rota whilst looking pretty gross on the surface does, however, give me chunks of time in between sets of days and nights. I can't do any of my other hobbies, sport and photography, so I needed to do something with my free time, and so I cracked open my k'nex.

An ambitious project, and one that's got me saying I'm gonna need more pieces :/

Any guesses?

Also if anyone can remind me how to embed flickr photos, that would help.

Looks like Steel Vengeance... If that is what it is, then ambitious is an understatement. You'll also definitely need those ball-bearing trains.

Does it make the first hill?

I'm going to go off on a limb here and guess a giga coaster. Is that next part going to be a criss-cross overbank with the yellow rod as the height marker?

Found this. Hopefully it'll help. (lookin good so far) ;)

Correct.

Nah, I'm not that delusional :P At the moment I'm trying Zadra, but it may well have to be a custom, 'cause that might be a bit ambitious too. I would love those ball-bearing trains, they look great.

Thanks!

Nope, RMC, I'm yet to give one a go. I made the height marker though!

Update:

Having a go at recreating Zadra at Energylandia, might be a tad ambitious, but I reckon I can make a nice custom if that fails. I've finished the turnaround, which looks a bit funky from some angles but I think it's pretty accurate to the real coaster, the shaping on RMCs do go against the norm anyway. I'm hoping to make a more realistic support structure as well but I'm concentrating on the basics for now.

Once again, apologies for the digusting carpet and terrible lighting:

WOW. That is an incredible looking element. The transition from gray to flexies is nice as well. I think the shaping is great. I guess you can always count on RMC having some great opportunities for intriguing little flair to their elements. Makes for a great build. Hope you are having fun with this!

Dunno exactly. Probably a similar number but rr and no sm, although I've collated thousands of other pieces over the ... 10 years I've been building these things.

It's got it, but I've added a smidge more outward banking.

Ah, yeah. That was frustrating. I'd left it to go back to uni operating nicely with only the break run and station to go, but when I came back it just didn't make the layout, and it wasn't even close. I cleaned the trains etc but it wasn't to be. I left it standing for over a year and eventually took it all apart.

What a beauty!

Thanks!

Cheers! I think it may have been a bit too ambitious...

Thanks for the feedback on that element, I wasn't quite sure myself.

Some more pictures, and some feedback needed before I continue the layout.

How does the weird stall look? Shaping is by no means final.

Zadra's stall is quite strange as it hangs vertical for a long time, and longer on the way up than the way down. I've tried to make it similar but it goes against my instincts for symmetry. And what do you make of the heartlining?

Moreover, I think Zadra's layout might be a stretch in terms of both pieces and speed (without the ball bearings trains, and I don't have access to a 3D printer). So I'm changing it slightly, from the stall it will turn rapidly back towards the drop and from there hopefully the layout will remain the same. I'm essentially just cutting a corner, just quite a big one.

The heartlining looks great! Only thing i can comment on is that the very top of the stall looks a little too pointy, as if the radius of it decreased a bit too much. The drop also is kinda oddly shaped as the lift half of the crest is significantly sharper than the rest of the drop. At least on the real ride, the crest of the lift appears to be a constant radius and then fluidly transitions into the rest of the drop. But aesthetic wise, it looks great! I can't get enough of that turnaround too. Its one of the best looking elements ive seen built on a knex coaster.

Thanks for your feedback.

I think I've fixed the radius of the stall now.

Yeah, I struggled with the crest. I had originally made the crest shallower and a more constant radius, but it just didn't look right. The real ride's crest does appear sharper than the rest of the drop to me, but I've definitely gone a bit too far the other way. Either way I still like the look of it.

I hope they get to you soon. I might get some, we'll see how I manage to keep the pace on this.

Thanks. Hopefully I've fixed that stuff.

A small update:

I've pretty much finished the stall. Some more supports are needed to strengthen the exit, and the shaping at the top of the exit and the bottom needs a bit of tweaking but you get the idea.
