Ok guys, here it is.

I was reading through

some of the posts here last night and noticed that a few people were talking about

getting a transfer track to work properly, all the time. I thought I'd give it a go,

and have succeeded in making a fully working model, that will move to place every

time.

The premise is simple, the main track splits into two seperate tracks,

one straight and one curved. These tracks are mounted onto a moving segment that

will slide from side to side. You could have a station for each one that they will slide

into to load the passengers (I just haven't built them), and the whole thing can be

mechanised with some easy gearing to move it (which I haven't done, either -

my gears are tied up in another model at the moment).

Pictures can say

this a lot better than I can, so here are a few.

Firstly, an overview:

You can see here that the 2 tracks are attached to each

other and move along using grey rods through the small grey loops. They are set up

so that when it moves from one side to the other it lines up perfectly with the

stationary main track.

The train entering the straight track, with no catches or

problems.

(haven't built the motors yet Ash)

And finally, leaving the straight track (again, no

problems or catches)...

I'll place a motor underneath it with rods attached

to the chain (like a dog). That will then catch onto a piece connected underneath the

track to pull it along. When it reaches the end the dog will either simply stop (needing

the motor to be turned off), or will slip under the track (as it is stuck) and carry on

around.

Until I build the motor section I'm not entirely sure how it

will go, but it should be one of these two.

Your Idea with the dog chain... It will

100% work. It wont work for me because my transfer track is to small. But it will for

you cuz you have just the right height. ^_^ B) good job. cant wait to see

it with the motor on :)

How are you going to put a chain on the curved

piece...I dont really understand how you are going to make this work with a motor.

:D

i think this is what hes going to do:

 |

      |
+=+=+=+=+=+=+=
 |

 |

The +=+= is chain

and the | is the connector that he will conect to the track and the moter will move the

chain therfore is will move the connectors wich goto the tracks....

That is right Jester, that is how I will be linking the two

tracks to move with a chain. It is light enough to get pulled across by a chain no

problems. As soon as I've done it I'll post pics.

If you mean

about getting a chain along the curved part for the train to move Coaster, I'm not

entirely sure. It would be possible to make both peices of track straight, enabling a

chain to go on both of them easily enough, but I thought about that one after I had

made the tracks (D'oh!). I'll have to think about it this way

though.

A possibility would be to have a chain going along the outside of

the track in a straight line, with an L shaped dog attached to it to push the train along,

rather than pull it with the dog on the train. That way the dog could then go back

under the track and back around again to get ready for the next train.
