There used to be occasions of names of very popular coasters being re-used by new members for far less impressive rides. To prevent this, we decided to get a trademarking thread. Nowadays it's more of an announcement page. Say I would post here that I 'claim' the name Joris en de Draak (which cannot be officially claimed as it would be a recreation), then would be more of an announcement I have plans for that ride.

So pretty much this is just a anoucement thread, and if the name is in here, just check in the coasters completed to make sure there's not a big one named the same. Got it.

An example would be naming your new ride Diamondback. You can imagine that CC10 and PKI25 wouldn't like the fact that you're using the same name.

The only thing I do is search the DB if here is already a coaster with the name I want to choose.
If not, then I take it.

Seems most of the posts in this thread list a bunch of names, I seriously doubt the posters have real plans to build a fraction of what they announce. It appears to me people are trying to gobble up names "just in case"

Besides wasn't Diamondback a recreation?

Anyway, hope there are no hard feelings RK500 that I am naming my woodie Blizzard.

OK, I've checked the database and construction threads and came up with a name that has not been used.

Unless anyone objects I intend to name my small woodie for the winter contest "Whirlwind"

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get why you should ask permission to use a name. It's not like you're using someone else's idea for making money, and other people don't really have the right to claim a word, letters linked together IMO. I do get it for contests, that you don't want people to copy your ideas in a specific contest, but overall I don't see the problem of people using the same name for their coaster, as long as they don't use the same logo and the same layout (except for recreations). In my opinion, there should be time bound to a coaster, I mean after 1 year the name can be copied or something like that.
