As I mentioned before, you can always build this diagonally on a granite base.

You can also just build a backbone, if you aren't working with a base.
That would work and look great on a slanted brakerun IMO.

As you can see, it's not that hard to use these brakes with a granite base. I could explain more, but I think this screenshot says it all.

And if you use a 45* connector instead the one-way, the rods won't slide either.
Awesome!

Indeed, and there's many other ways of preventing the rods moving or rotating at all. I figured I could leave that step to you yourself, guys. :) Just showing you the way to achieve the right distance between both brake rails.

One of the things I like the most is that they're not very visible.

That is indeed a very good reason. Right now it seems I do need the trims on Cool & Fresh. So I decided to go with these brakes for it, mainly because they are very controllable and do not get in the view of the track.

the tubing won't disform when the cars go trough the brakes, because they don't even touch the tubing.

I don't see how this is a big deal as a brakerun is usually a straight piece of track. Every bump and jolt doesn't make a difference even though it slows down a train, it's a brake-run so it's supposed to happen. It might look less appealing to the eye, but it's minimal.

^ But it can give the train a weird speed when using a train to drag them out, and I think there is quite a big chance the trains will be very wobbly.

It's barely noticeable, I wouldn't nitpick about such a small thing. Besides, track deformation always happens it just takes time. It's not a significant deal.

It's really up to the builder and what they need. If you have a longer brake run and you want it to be controlled, I'd say go with the adjustable ones. if you need a quick stop go with FTGU's or yours, Bart.

Personally I prefer tubed-brakes because of their smoothness and they allow for more control because they can bend a little.

To me it seems you are just coming up with different "flaws" these brakes would have, but you have to know that this is a tested design (It ran for 5 full days on Looping Star) and it didn't experience from any of the things you have said before.

This is funny. I decided to use these brakes today before reading Gump's post, and so I didn't even think of using the 1-way or 45* connector. I am using granites for my base so it would've worked, but here is the solution i came up with myself on Lengua Del Diablo today.

Essentially i made a "backbone" off of the track connectors (like steel said) and then just fit a blue rod square in and under my granite x green rod square. So i guess to answer my and Max's and blackitty's question, YES it definately can be done, and in more ways than one! I used this brake right after my launch so the train flys right thru it, but it does slow it down quite a bit.

Also, I already had a "blue square" grid on my transfer track, so i installed another one of these brakes onto it.

Posted Image

Now my train comes into the station with perfect speed. I love these brakes! And, as you can see below, Lambchopz, you can use the other orange track connectors to do the same thing.

Posted Image

or you can use both in one brake run, like i did

Posted Image

the only thing is that if you use the single orange track connectors you need to use more spacers and therefore you will need to use a blue rod instead of a silver one. Sorry to ramble guys but i LOVED these things. Thank you soo much MAX, now i can finally begin my video since my coaster is running perfect.

Wow, chaindogg, thank you very much. You seem to have improved on the design too. I really like how you use a couple of grey one way connectors to keep the end of the tubing from popping up. This is one of the best in-use examples I've seen!

Good job, I like how people improve on an existing design to make it even better!

I have made a great improvement. They allow for the brakes to be released like real ones, and can be controlled by a motor.

I can make a tutorial if anyone wants one.

Basically what I am aiming for for my upcoming projects. I ordered some high-duty servo's that I can use for brakes like these.
