With everyone making up new brakes I felt like doing something new. I really liked TheSUCKCrew's side friction brakes because they keep the car centered, don't push it up and can be used with chain. I also Liked Maxlaam's Highly Adjustable Brakes because it used tubing which is easier on the wheel housings and looks better. So I kind of combined the two and made these.

They are not as adjustable as Max's, they provide a firm braking action suited well for weighted trains. The are on the wide side but look like real brakes, I think they look cool. They can be made in any length and can be used on any size structure because they attach to the track.

I give you ForgotToGrowUp's Damn Cool Brakes.

Not bad. I like how base rod doesn't matter.

Make 8 of the things on the right (more or less if you want brakes longer or shorter) and 2 of the ones on the left

Posted Image

Put the 8 things on 2 grey rods like this

Posted Image

Make 2 of these

Posted Image

Combine them like this (note they are mirror images of each other)

close up

make 2 of these

Posted Image

combine like this

Posted Image

important that when you combine them you snap the single grey connector onto the grey rod so all the orange clips face the same way.

Posted Image

make 10 of these (or as many as you need)

Posted Image

attache to underside of track like this.

Posted Image

clip red pieces onto short grey rods like this

Posted Image

flip over and add tubing

Tada!!!!

Very nice. You could easily add a catwalk to that and hide the brakes.

Edit: Oh, oops, i forgot i was still on pyro's account. This is Griffon.

Yup and because they sit low I am planning to place them in my station and the platform will partially cover them.

One of the great things about side-friction: Even with a low-crosstie coaster, the tubing won't disform when the cars go trough the brakes, because they don't even touch the tubing.

^There are. Just re-fresh the page, and if that doesn't work, try again later.

Really cool brakes ForgotToGrowUp!!!!!
Now I'm in the mood to go make brakes for my roller coaster instead of spending my time watching TV and studying because of my strep throat.

Let me tell you why I like Max's brakes better.

It all starts with me hating to cut tubing. That means that for tubing-powered brakes I use pieces of tubing that are too long (a bit too long or far too long, doesn't matter much). I want to be able to hide those parts of the tubing that stick out. Max's brakes allow that with more ease in my opinion. I can easily use a long piece of tubing on them and still hide them well.

I'm surprised that after all the coasters you have built you don't have an enormous collection of tubing ends. I hate cutting it too, but see it as a necessary evil. I try to use the shortest piece that will fill the need. I have one set of purple and one set of red tubing still in sealed packages. I am saving those!

I decided to go *screw it* on Cool & Fresh, I cut a lot of tubing. But I never cut the longest parts I have.
