You are going to "hide" the wiring? Just putting it to the inside would do wonders. (though I figure you are still working on the wiring)
A lot of rides this style do have cloths over the insides, and it would help to make things contrast well. (though it could also look tacky...) But you have good taste, and this thing looks awesome!!

They work as a standalone tri-colour LED. Just give them 3V and 40mA and they do their thing.
