^Completely true. Unless someone makes a plug and play Arduino system, electro n00bs are better off with NXT.

This boosts my ego so much :)

Btw, Floris is hard at work making tutorials for the Arduino and how to code it. I still get Pm's every now and then from people telling me they are going to buy an Arduino.

I think it is worth it if you have the money. And you are a very good knex builder. If you don't have a lot of experience, you won't be able to connect the NXT motors to knex. It is really hard to setup.

^^ I actually think NXT is very easy to connect to knex...at least, compared to arduino. So if you don't feel like putting hours upon hours of work into automation, NXT is the way to go.

I think you are wrong there, NXT is still pre-fab pieces and if you want to expand upon that it's not as easy as just adding an extra piece of wire like with an Arduino.

Connecting it to K'NEX is usually just a dab of hot-glue or wedge it through a connector, it really depends on how you build it. Working with 12V motors is a breeze, plug 'n play. Sensors are easy to work with if you build them proper the first time. The only thing with Arduino is that you need some electronics skills/knowledge and the knowledge on how to code.

Yes, it takes a while to build, but in the end I think it easier and more fun to work with. Besides, building something so complex gives you a sense of accomplishment :)

Maybe this isn't quite the right thread to do this but I am interesting in purchasing some NXT to automate my knex coasters. I also have a few quetions:

-Where should I purchase the system?
-Should I buy the complete set or buy separate pieces?
-Is it worth buying the NXT 2.0 over the original NXT?
-Is it worth paying over $250.00 for the system?

Please Reply,
Thanks,
-AsM

EDIT: I do have the Lego Mindstorms RCX 2.0 from when my brother used it, but it is now so old that the computer adapter is no longer standard for new cps. It has not been used in years so If I buy a special adapter, I'm taking a gamble because it might not even work in the long run.

-Should I take my chances with this old sstem and buy an adapter or just get a whole new NXT 2.0 system?

So why did you buy a NXT kit when your computer cannot even support it?
