Does it have to be a square or could it be a rectangle? Is there a height restriction? Is that 5 greys tall?

Of course your model can be smaller than the 5 greys wide, 5 greys long and 5 greys tall. But it can, in NO way, be larger in ANY of the three dimensions.

Can I build a K'nex platform (just to add height for a possible display) provided that all track, theming, supports, and motors stay within a 5x5 area?

The coaster itself and theming must stay inside the 5x5x5 cube. Building a platform for the sole reason to raise the coaster to a display level does not add to your cube. So yes, as many dutch people mistakenly say:"Go your gang!"

Let me google that for you

A cube is like a 6 sided dice. Each side is a square, and is the same size as the other squares.

if you build with VV the cube goes up to 5 blue rods wide, 5 blue rods long, and 5 blue rides tall. Look at my ride for example. http://www.sscoaster...i-iceman-14998/. Hope I helped. :D this message was for Jamieboy1234

What i'm wondering is if you make a base for your coaster and you have tube supports if you're allowed to extend the tube supports down to the bottom of the base without having the base count as a part of the cube.
Example:

The part in the base is still part of a support so it does count as space used within the cube. A good way to compensate this loss is by making your track dive through the base, which makes for very nice tunnels!

Does the station count as part of the coaster or is it counted as scenery?
