    What to build.....

Hello SSC it’s been a while since I posted what I’ve been building! I seem to have a habit of never making my final videos or posting the finished product...
~~~
So before I start I’d first like to say that I did finish the pier I was working on (yes I know, that’s a reaaaaallllllly big throwback :P) and will hopefully post some pictures at some point in the next week.
~~~
Anyway, once again I have decided to recreate a ride. This time it is one I haven’t ever had the chance to ride (But, as I’m sure many of you will agree, would love to be able to!). It is also a very difficult coaster, in my opinion, to recreate but so far so good...
At this point in time I have been working on this one for around a year - only during holidays from university so not a crazy amount of hours but I have been taking it slow. So far I have the first half of the ride completed and working which I will show off later, but for now will leave you all with a teaser.

So, can you guess what ride it is? ;)

No... surely not.  :o

If you can get the launches working I'm sure you can pull this off. I would have tried this coaster a while ago but I'm not patient enough to get the launches to work.

Don't make us wait too long before you show us the first half and your pier I'd be interested to see how that turned out too.

I have no idea what it is but I'd love to see it as launched coasters are always interesting to me, especially multi-launches.

Man, this is going to be a stunning recreation of Taron. Good luck with the rolling launches. I havent seen many drive tire launches, so im super excited to see that in action. All i gotta say is good luck with the recreation. I absolutely cannot wait to see more!

Well thank you very much for the guesses!

You were all very much correct - I am recreating the beautiful Taron at Phantasialand!

So far I have finished the first launch and all track right up to the second, which will the rolling launch for which I have built the tyre drive. I haven’t got to testing this yet and I’m now but at uni so won’t be doing so for a few months (I hope to finish the ride then but I’m not sure if this will include the scenery).

In terms of what’s there just now, the initial launch is 100% automatic (although it does fail ‘occasionally’ :P) and also 100% mechanical, with no programming, servos, etc - purely Knex parts with a couple elastic bands, bungee and nylon thread. It was very difficult to get this to work but eventually turned out quite well and it gets the train round this section of the layout without any issues.

The coaster itself is on a really big strong base which makes moving it very easy - just split it into section which can fit through doorways XD This is up to approximately ground level for the ride and has parts of the layout dip into it as on the real coaster. I have also tried to keep the layout as accurate as possible from an overhead sketch if the layout that I found on google images and plenty other eye level photos. Included with this are the same position and shape of supports, i.e. all of my tubes are where they would be on the real coaster with the exception of a few temporary ones which will change a little with the second half of the layout going in.

Anyway you’re really here for the pictures so here you go :)

This is going to be one of the best.

The shaping is pretty much flawless, the supports look really nice, the launch isn't over powered so the pacing is still nice and that launch mechanism is very impressive.

Can't wait for the second half... and I still want to see the pier and eurofighter you built.

This is absolutely incredible! The shaping is spot on and it seems appropriately scaled and matches the layout perfectly. This is unreal. I cannot wait to see more.

I'm glad to see ambitious coasters like this are still being built! The shaping looks fantastic and those supports look very rigid. Its impressive how well the coaster conserves speed.

I’m so out of the loop just now, I had no idea you were still building stuff. This is tremendous. Really filling up the back of that room nicely with some smooooooothness.

Had the pleasure to ride Taros last summer. The Airhill after the 2nd launch is so much fun!

Good luck on the recreation. So far so good!

I can't believe I missed this! This looks epic and you've done such a great job with your shaping. The launch is tremendous as well! :)

I think the second part of the ride is longer than the first part, however by looking at how well you maintain speed in the first part it should definitely be doable. Keep it up!
