Next up to break the height barrier will be my coaster (no name yet) at Cosi Toledo that needs this pluplicity(sp?). I will be meeting with Carl Nelson the director of exhibits and facilities to disscus plans for the roller coaster at 4:30 on sunday.
It will be 33+ feet tall and possibly free standing, sorry KNCC, 70+ mph.

If anyone cares please leave feedback and I will have updates every 3 days.

Good luck...it'll be a lot harder than you think. Just breaking 20 was tough and i can't imagine how you'll hit 33 with your (no offense) minimal experience.

^None Taken. Actually I've been planing this for a looooooooooooong time so....
I know it definatly Won't be easy but Cosi has a "near infinante amount of K'nex"
so I won't worry about running out of parts.

Use all the pieces you can then. Look at box supports. Go into the old gallery and look at CC10's Kingda Ka model. Use those supports. Make sure it's as tough as a brick (I mean it to). It might seem okay, but once you get up to lik3 10 feet you're like "oh, wow".

I was planning to go 20 feet with Pipe Blaster. I was very confident in my supports too. The were strong and big, but once I got higher it just couldn't go 20. As I said, if you are going to do this please use super, duper strong supports.

For the stronger supports look through CC10's threads and you'll find a strong support thread which has a technique (sp?) that Westside7th came up with. That would be the wisest to use. Take your time and DO NOT RUSH THIS. Or else it won't work.

Good luck!

Here we go again. Are you planning on a lay out other than just a tophat?

^^Possibly more than a tophat if I get track donations from k'nex, but unfortunatly right now nothing more than a tophat, possibly an invert tophat.

Thanks Guys! IMC I have writen those down in my notes about the ride.

Aww, dead all ready? :sdd :sdd :sdd Well I have decided on an invert tophat rather than a regular one. Unfortunatly my meeting with Mr. Nelson was canceld, But I did 1/3 of the structure done. It will be composed of 2 towers with a backbone tower all conected mutiple times at a central point. From 0-11' it will use green rod boxes that are split into 8 triangles. From 11'1"-22" the towers will have same structure only split into 4 triangles. Finally 22'1"-33' same structure only split into 2 triangles.

Thats my plan, any questions?

The record is 36 feet. It was built by someone in Minneapolis. It was called 'Aussam'. Just FYI... 33 wouldn't break a record.

Aussam was a terrible coaster, and was not freestanding, so I think that the current record is held by KNCC. By my book and most others this will break the record if you do it...

Good news everyone! I got the meeting down without a hitch! Now this is the 11 foot high structure taken 2 days ago. I have put track on it already but I will definatly need more X-ties. Were is the best place to get these(Because cosi doesen't have them but they will fund most of it?)

Pics: hot off the presses!
