forgive my nooby-ness, but what do you mean it won't disengage from the motor sprocket? are you talking about the chain or the cars? i'm very confused.

The chain wraps around the sprocket that is fixed to the motor. What I need to do is build up a raised surface on the mounting plate to act a a chain guide. Easy to do on paper but due to such a small chain (about 1/16" tall and 3/32" wide) I can't physically cut the part that precise with my tools. I need a milling machine which I have no access to.
