Hmmm.....I would have thought [maybe] it was afterburner. Only because the tilted launch threw me off. But, Jumpge is already doing that, so I'm stumped.

Thanks for all the comments guys! For those of you who guessed, you were all pretty close.

Today was my first day of Easter break! Naturally, I did a lot of building.

Yesterday I finished shaping the turn. Today I built the entire stengel dive and supported the end of the flat turn. Please tell me how it looks and don't be afraid to mention any shaping flaws you see--I want to fix it if there's something wrong!

When I shaped it earlier today, the top was too sharp. Here's what it was like before I fixed it. Normally I would be fine with this shaping, but the train is supposed to fly through this element and that would pull too many G's.

And some shots of the supports:

The next element is a secret, but I should make significant progress on it tomorrow, if not entirely finish it. Oh, and the test video above is now public if you want to see it.

Wow, looks beautiful, and that launch is FAST. I think there are a few tiny bumps in the first picture along the turn, but I imagine their almost invisible in person, I had the same problem before. The stengel dive looks beautiful, but the turn following looks like you could add a few more connections. Great job anyways, I can't wait for more.

In this picture it looks like there is a bump in the transition.

Everything else looks good and smooth.
I like it.

Wow, you really fixed that Stengel as to what it was before you changed it, and I love it! Besides the bump/straight that Stig pointed out, everything else is very smooth and well supported. I love the custom track-to-support connections, and I can't wait to see the next element.

^Yes, but it must go through the stengel with a lot of speed, so it's not wrong.
Really nice Steel, i'm impressed about the speed of the launch!

Wow, that looks really good! That launch can go so fast! I think this is going to be a really epic ride.

Do you mind if I steal some of your launch design?

Really looks like that element on Maverick, thumbs up for that. I am not agreeing on calling it a stengel dive, though. I can assure you that there is no feeling of weightlessness on your element like on the one and only stengel dive on Goliath.

...it looks like there is a bump in the transition...

Further inspection revealed a sharp spot indeed. I added another flexi-rod and I think that helped smooth it out.

Sniggeh, Knexrule, JP, maarten, Helmut, TK, etc: Thanks!

Maverick's turn leads up into the dive.

I was basing it more off the first so-called "stengel dive" under Maverick's drop.

Fairly stretched out stengle dive, not?

Not at these speeds...

Really looks like that element on Maverick, thumbs up for that. I am not agreeing on calling it a stengel dive, though. I can assure you that there is no feeling of weightlessness on your element like on the one and only stengel dive on Goliath.

All right. But can I still call it a stengel dive, for lack of a better name? Unless you have any other ideas.

Because my family is taking our 5th-wheel trailer to the beach this week, I'll be unable to build until Thursday. Hopefully this update will satisfy your hunger until then ;)

First, imagine this element in Knex.

FYI, I'm not done supporting it yet (especially the last few feet of track).

Although the X-shaped support structure looks weird, it works pretty well. It hardly shakes when I toss the train through the element, and it should shake even less once I finish supporting the pullout.

I was just fooling around in Photoshop with this, but I actually like the idea a little...

That. Is. Completely. Awesome.

I can't see anything wrong from any of the angles, and there aren't any bumps that I can see whatsoever. You can move on for all I care.

Steel, I really love your transitions :). I saw that first picture and I didn't expect it to be that high, you must have a powerful launch!
