Not for the God of Tubes...

When do you think you are going to start with the construction?
Or is it already started?

20 green rods = 14.14 grey rods = a little more than 10 feet tall.

I know a blue rod (including two half 3D's to create an edge of a cube) is 7.5 cm / 3 inches. And so fourty blue rods are 300 cm / 10 feet.

I haven't started construction yet, and I won't start this weekend either.

So is this now some sort of Box-Tub hybrid? Are you going to have a box backbone the entire time? Cause now this is just a box coaster supported to the ground with tubes.

At a scale this large though, if you wanted accurate spacing between supports, there would be multiple feet between tubes without any supports. I think the boxes are pretty necessary.

Can't wait to see how the construction of this goes along, it'll be a monster of a coaster when it's done. :)

That is great :)! I think you will get one of the most accurate recreations in this way. It would be cool if Europa Park would buy the knex needed for the ride and ask you to build one for them which they can show somewhere next to the real thing .

This Friday evening and Saturday afternoon were used for the first actual construction on Project 2012. Thursday morning I received an e-mail stating they wouldn't provide as much space as I was hoping for and so I had to come up with a new plan. I started scaling down the designs and then I figured one end of the coaster would not even fit even if they gave me the complete room. In the end I had to scale the lift down to a little more than 8 feet. From 40 to 32 blue rods. This compulsory change in design annoyed me at first, but one major (yes, really major) advantage is that the lift fits in our living room. Actually, when the train crests the top, there is one single inch left. Now on the matter of construction: the lift's backbone (blue rod skeleton) with accompanying track has been built. The track still needs final shaping and more, much more track-to-support connections. Of course, the skeleton alone is not strong enough to keep itself up, that's where tube supports will come into action. So far two of these tubes have been built. To assure the tubes' lengths are right, I use a temporary box support tower to keep the backbone relatively stress-free, in order to get the right tube lenghts. Next weekend I will work on the tallest tube support of the whole coaster. The challenge will be the chain guide, that I'd like to run through the tubes. I can't guarantee this will be done.

Oh, no pictures? No, I will show you the lift when it is ready and done. I don't feel like receiving comments on something that is far from completed.

We don't need pictures, we know that'll be awesome. However, I wonder how you'll manage for the chain guide.

The museum is being rather strict about the coaster's size, I am having a hard time here. Yeah, Silver Star would be rather difficult with a lift of just 6 feet, which it would have to be would it have to fit in the area they're providing me with. I'll have to find some alternatives. Damn it. Size restrictions annoy me.
