My Idea for the winter contest is a dueling launched coaster. As you can see I have already made quite a bit of progress. I am bad at starting posts like this. I already am just trying to make my way back to the beginning.

The concept behind this coaster is battling Summer and Winter Solstices. The inspiration, and decidedly the music for my final video, comes from my 2011 marching band show "A Winter's Solstice."

I have yet to figure out a launch for the coaster. I attempted an automatic launch (I created a prototype launch that I will probably post soon) but because of the size restrictions I did not have enough launch track. I will at the very least make it launch so I don't have to be in the video, even if it is not fully automatic.

On the 4th pics there is a sharp spot on thetop of the corck try to fix that;)

Sorry for how long it took me to update. I just tend to have better things to do than build or post. Don't get me wrong, I love you guys. I just have a life.

Anyway, I supported the corkscrew on the winter side a little better. I also added two curves, the second one has temporary crossties as I have some more black ones on a seperate project that I have yet to make a video of. On the summer side, I added a small curve to lead into my next/final element, but nothing major. Anyway, this is just to show you guys I am still alive and kind of working on this project. I'll work on it today and possibly have another update at the end of today.

Okay so a couple things to explain about this test video. The launch is currently 100% manual but I intend to add semi-automation so I do not have to be in the final video, but I will have to reset the launch manually every time. Also, the curve on winter is not even close to being finished or fully supported so the train should make it just fine when I am done. And finally, due to the launch being manual, there are several inconsistencies between different launches. And by several I mean a lot. The train on summer sometimes flies over the top hat, and sometimes it doesn't get halfway up (in the video it creeps over the top). I hope the automation will fix that.

Here is my other project. Just a little launch idea. Hopefully I can keep it pretty much in tact but I'll have to take the black crossties. I wanted to post this in the tutorial section but I only have one video of it for now and it's pretty simple anyway. Tell me if someone else has done this. It's just a launch that uses a second car attached to a rubber band. The second car stretches out the rubber band as a 90* knex piece pulls it back. When it is released, the second car pulls the chain above it to launch the train. Just watch the video and it will make sense.

Wow, that system looks cool. Sucks you cant use it on Solstice.

Dude, that is extremely cool. The launch is just so simple, yet it works.

Automation is my specialty
 

If only I had more space/pieces/time.

Im the worst guy when you talk about auto matic things i love evrything what they build. But i cant build a thing my self and this Launch is something even i can build!

Yes the launch is something that I thought of, and I am not an automatic guy by any means but the launch is pretty simple. I was surprised I was able to get away with only two motors and still have it pull back the rubber band. There are still a few tweaks I would have to make before I use it on a full scale project, but other than that it works pretty smoothly. Feel free to use it.

I might use it at some point. Finally something I can understand because I'm also terrible at automation and launches etc. As for the coaster(s), I can see a few areas that shaping could be improved but probably won't be too hard to fix.
