Hello everyone, I just have a little question for you.

Did someone ever builded a themed k'nex roller coaster or a k'nex roller coaster in combination with a dark ride?
Think a little bit about the rollercoaster made out of coaster dynamix calleed pharoah I thought. (At the coasterdynamix construction forum)

If it's never done before i'm probably going to be the first ;-)

Oh well themed K'nex rollercoasters have been done multiple times before. I am not sure about a dark ride, I think someone tried but never finished. Also a dark ride would be quite boring to watch, wouldn't it?

Why should it be boring? I think it's pretty fun to make a nice themed indoor part and than a drop with a helix and stuff. And maybe some simple animatronics.... I don't really understand what you find boring about it?

That's really simple, actually. You would need to be able to see it, and dark rides limit the ways one can see the inside where 'the magic happens'.

That's true but you also can make the walls and or the ceilling removable... And i think with a pov it will look pretty cool and original.

I think Troglodyte is a good example of what you're talking about.

Not indoor, but Balrog is cool.

Trog has build a very well themed roller coaster. That's really what I mean with themed.

There's been a ton of themed coasters with indoor parts. Jespercoaster also made a themed, indoor "boat ride" if I recall.

The Boat ride from JesperCoasters is pretty unique but doesn't look very well with all that paper :-P

Darkish? I've seen it, It is a darkride but not very well themed (Altrough it has some nice lightning in it) But that's all my opinion about it, Other people can have other opinions (Sounds logic).

I think it would be cool if I use that green soft light weighted stuff that people use to put flowers in (Don't really know how it is called) Than make it a size so it fits in a grey rod square and make it a little rocky shaped. Than spray it with some paint that has the right color, Next add some random green places to make it look a little bit mossy. And than repeat that a few times an you can make a complete mountain :-P (And you also can break it appart when needed and make another shape mountain.

This also could be done for wooden panels or brick walls and stuff.

Do you think that would be a cool idea?
(Hope you understand it all a little bit :-P)

If you get a good POV camera you could capture what it is like to ride your dark ride. I loved dark rides as a kid.

Comet Recreation still underway.

Proof you never grow up if you keep playing with toys!

The ride from Jesper was pretty awesome, pretty sick back in the day (it's 2 years old, the guy has grown a lot better).

Rubiks cube was built for a contest, the size was pre determined by the contest rules and he had to finish it in time. He put a lot of work in the coaster, doing a good job at theming takes a long time too.

Personally, I wouldn't care much about theming if the model itself doesn't compliment it properly.

The stuff you want is called 'oase'. It's going to be messy to work with.

Although I do like your idea, I think you are underestimating the difficulty of it.
If you want to get realistic theming like on Pharaoh, you'll have to do a lot more than just "make it a little rocky shaped". Painting and "weathering" etc. requires a lot of skill, and making it look like a natural rock will take quite a few tries aswell.
Furthermore, because k'nex coasters are much bigger than Coasterdynamix, you will need to make your theming a lot bigger aswell.
Although it might sound weird, it is much harder to make it look detailed when working in a bigger scale.
Oh, and you can better forget using the steekschuim (the oasis foam stuff). From what I've heard it's horrible to work with, and it sucks up all the paint so that won't work either.

Another thing you can try is using cloths dipped in plaster, and wrapping that around a chicken wire structure.
Look around on model railroad forums, they know this stuff very well.

I hope I didn't discourage you, if you really want this it is possible. But make sure you know what you're starting on.

You all are right, It is a lot of work and it's hard to make it look good. I already talked with my mother and she said that Oasis foam never is going to work :-P (It was just a random idea).

My father worked once for Ouwehands dierenpark (A Zoo in Rhenen in the netherlands) to paint the monorail (With the wood texture) And he also made a rocky wall for a Van de Valk Resort (One of the biggest hotels company in the netherlands) So i think my father knows alot about how to make it look rocky and how to do the painting and stuff (He also has is own painters company)

I'm very good at mechanics so that is not going to be a problem (But I don't know someone who is good at electricity, Still want to learn it).

Do you have any previous builds you can show us? Not necessarily a roller coaster.

Not really with knex :-P. You probably think now, You never are going to build something like this.
Before I will do this project I probably first do some other projects.
But the things I build before I never took pictures from. I'm not the best at rollercoasters but darkrides is what I like to do (never made a knex dark ride but I know this from a lot of games where I build them like: Minecraft, Rct1-3 and a few other games and programs.)
