It works based off gravity, Im sure momentom will casue it to spin, but generally the heaviest point will be pointing down yes.

No it doesn't. The car spins in the direction of the velocity. Since the seats are on a freely rotating axle the speed of the train gives them the ability to actually negotiate the spin.

What are you two smoking? There's a third and forth rail on the out side that change position on each crosstie. They move up and down, forcing a gear to move up and down changing the cars rotation.
Have you ever noticed the "X" on the car? not just for decoration, but for the teethed rod (or whatever it's called)that;s connected to the outside rails that rotates the gears.

Dude, I know how the real 4D train works, I was talking about the K'nex cars. What are you smoking:-)?

^Oh, sorry, but what is ephy smoking?

LOL ephy aint smoking nothing :) I found out that he's right:

If I push my coaster like this:

|_}
|_}
|_}
|_|\
|_||_||_||_||_|
} = chainlift
|_| or |_ = structure
\ = bend

If I push the car up the bend, The cars go pshyco:eek: for a little while.

^Ephy was talking about real 4-d's. And they go pshyco cause there free spinning, and ultra light and can move with a slight jolt.

Applying physics laws once in awhile wouldn't hurt. And I don't know where you got that horrid explanation for how the X cars work, but if you look on rcdb at the press releases and facts it clearly says that the independent rotation causes the "you don't know what to expect" sensation. This is in conjuction with the rack and pinon gear mechanism so nobody is really wrong here.

^You said the speed/velocity lets them control the seats. It does give you a '"you don't know what to expect" sensation', but the ride never changes. the rails can't move.

The press release tells you nothing of how the coaster works. It jsut makes the coaster sound cool. Maybe you are just wording it wrong, but I don't see anything true in what you are saying right now.

Me? I'm pretty sure that the two facts on how X works were perfectly correct, then again, my wording is a little messed, I don't know any of the names.

no there are four rails, hence 4D. the main two are for the usual three wheels. The other two rails move up and down, omly because thats how they are welded. Two wheels connected to a straight gear move up and down with the rail, causing a round gear connected to the seats, which without the gears would be free-spinning, to rotate the seats, but if the rail is off just barely, you are moved in a wrong rotation, and that is not good. I'm going to stop ranting now.

From my research (I did a project on coasters), i found there are huge gears (in the train) that rotate when they come in contact with a specific part of the track that has a rack, if you will, of teeth that moves the gears, thereby moving the cars. I'm not sure how they stay in place during the ride, but thats how they move

no, i saw a diagram on how it works. Its definitely because the rail moves up and down.

thats what I meant, but your saying that the racks are on the rail, but they are built in the car, and move with the profile of the rail.

Ummm, your right pshyco, but when was I wrong?
Plus 4D has absolutly nothing to do with the fourth rails. It is a term that says this coaster hasa four demensions for the riders, you go left and right, up and down, side to side, and the 4D coaster spins you through it. It's basiccally saying that thise ride has a whole new dimension, which is basiccally true.

left to right, up down and side to side is the definition of 3D
