Hello,
I've started my new recreation for Summer Heat: Kingda Ka!
So far I've got like 1/3 finished of the top hat. I still have to finish something at the top, I've to put the laterals in there, and I've got to put the track on there of course. Well, enjoy the pictures :)!

That looks awesome! It looks like it would move a lot though. You're going to use a rubber band launch, I hope?

EDIT: And by rubber band, I mean that the chain is turned by a rubber band. Not that you hook a rubber band onto the car and let it go.

That looks pretty sick. There's already been a top notch TTD recreation by TBM and I think this could, heck will be the top notch KK recreation everyones wanted to see. Good luck!

Why don't you use a knex "hydraulic launch". That would be much better IMO. I sure as hell don't want to see a rubber band launch.

The tower looks unbelievable. Awesome work dude.

^you mean using hydraulic as a source to launch it, or to recreate kingda ka's launch with rubber bands as a source?

Well, I've got an update. Maybe you can give me so more advice for the launch, it must be hard to get the train over a top of 8 feet.

How are you going to connect the track to the tubes?
I'm glad you added the diagonal supports, they make the whole thing look better.
PLEASE: don't forget the breaks/air hill... alot of people forget that.

^ This is going to be exactly like FlyingDutchman Goldminer:
Many people tried and failed, but maarten can pull it off...

This looks really good so far, I don't think you should use a chain, but a rope connected to a little piece of chain.
The chain has a lot of friction, and a lot more points to break as a wire or something.
The structure looks really good, can't wait to see this finished!

if you connect the rubberband to the chain that way, the rubber band might catch itself in between the two red gears.

it looks awsome!!!!!

I will use the launch system which RCT adviced me. But I don't understand how the tension wheel moves and how the cables are attacted to it? And if I'll use the drill as a power source, how do I know when to stop it so the catch car won't get stuck somewhere?
After I've been away for about 4 days I found some time to do some work on it, somehow it doesn't look perfect yet!
(you may notice that the pictures are dark, I don't know how it happened)

The pull in needs to be streched out more.

Look at this picture (I know its at a angle. But it was the best picture I could get.)

It's just overall too skinny. The upward twist starts much too early as well.

EDIT: Nevermind, it might not be too skinny. I was mentally comparing it to TTD which is a little fatter.

It seems there's a little straight spot right at where your 45 degree support connects to the track. About the width of the tower, I think it looks good. :)
