Hi everyone!

I was hoping this community could point me in the right direction to a K'NEX question I have. I am a science teacher at a high school for students with special needs. We are currently working on a unit that involves energy, circuits, and motors. I would like to do a multi-day lab involving a K'NEX coaster set. I recall that when I was in high school we used a K'NEX rollar coaster set and designed coaster cars, the objective was to see what group created the most efficient and effective coaster car to make it around the entire track without crashing or running out of speed. I would love to do something similar with my students, however, after some research it appears that the new K'NEX roller coaster sets do not allow for custom roller coaster car building (I believe when I did this activity in high school the coaster was model 63030).

So my question ...

Are there any roller coaster sets that allow for individuals to make custom coaster cars, or are you required to use the standard car that comes with the set?

I understand that it is possible to go above and beyond and customize anything, but my students need things to remain pretty simple.

Also, is there a difference between the physics and amusement park education sets?

I thank anyone who takes a shot at answering these questions, any input or lead is appreciated, for my students would greatly benefit from this activity. (Side note: I did contact K'NEX directly, but they have failed to respond to my questions.)

You can make custom cars from the Original Knex Roller Coaster. It is not practical though because they are hard to find.
Try buying Screamin Serpent sets. They are the most common and are the best fo building Knex roller Coasters.

I think the Original Knex Roller Coaster set would be your best option because you have to make your own car. The track makes it very easy to create a custom car and to test different designs.

Still, he is asking for a set that allows custom cars. Definitely don't want a Screamin Serpent then.
